Now Danny’s dad is crying, and Danny is saying, “Dad, please don’t, look, I’ll come back and visit you all the time, please, really, I will.”

“You won’t,” Danny’s dad says.

“Please don’t do this.”

His dad cries harder. “I’m just proud,” he says. “That’s the only reason.”
