Rage
As Leighton walked out onto the runway, everyone in the crowd stood and clapped.
I had been hiding in the cut watching the show.
I hadn’t spoken to her since earlier, and I knew she wasn’t even sure I had come.
I wasn’t trying to stress her, but I wanted to surprise her, and it took the help of her sisters and her assistant for me to pull it off.
As she prepared to thank everyone and say what she had to say, I walked toward the back of the stage with my pass in hand in case I was stopped.
The security guy remembered my face and he let me in with no problem.
Rushing up the stairs, I met Lexi at the top, and she passed me the two dozen roses she’d been hiding for me.
After taking them, I checked my pocket for the tenth time in two hours to make sure the ring box was still there.
I waited for Leighton to wrap her speech up before I walked out onto the stage.
I wasn’t even nervous despite it being a full house because all I saw was Leighton.
There were gasps and light cheers from the crowd as I approached her making Leighton turn around.
When she saw me, her eyes widened from shock.
Partly because she didn’t expect me to be up there with her, but I knew the main reason was my hair.
Leighton had never seen me without wicks. I loved my wicks. They weren’t going to stop anything, but I felt it was time for a change, so I cut them off and was donning a close cut. As I inched toward her, I saw the tears in her eyes.
“Why you crying already?” I asked in a low tone. Leighton began hyperventilating when I got down on one knee. The crowd cheering didn’t matter. I didn’t have a mic, but she could hear me. She was the only one that needed to hear me.
“I’m not going to make this long and drawn out. I tell you daily how you make me feel. And I want to spend the rest of my life telling you how you make me feel. Will you marry me?”
“Of course I will.”
Pulling the box from my pocket, I opened it and removed the ring.
Everyone clapped and cheered as I eased the diamond onto her finger.
It had set me back some racks, but she was worth it.
After her family and a bunch of other people told us congratulations, I watched my baby work the crowd and take pictures.
Either the people there were some good ass actors, or everybody really did love her clothes.
Leighton was about to wrap the event up when I saw Markell walking toward her.
My body tensed immediately. I didn’t like it, but as long as he didn’t get out of line, I wasn’t going to make a scene or step in.
“Congratulations,” he spoke in a gruff tone. “On everything.”
Leighton didn’t respond. I kept my gaze trained on Markell as he chuckled.
“I come in peace. I just want to know if you had my child.”
“I have a child. He’s four months old, and you’re not needed.”
“If I’m the father, I have rights.”
“That you’ll have to take me to court for.”
Anger flashed in Markell’s eyes. “That’s a game you want to play with me? Legal battles can get expensive.”
“Ask us if we give a fuck,” I stepped forward.
Markell flicked the tip of his nose before walking away. Leighton looked down at her phone. “No mother fucking way. Rage!”
“What’s up?” I looked at her phone screen, but all I saw was a bunch of notifications.
“The website was set to go live thirty-five minutes ago. Everything sold out,” her voice cracked. Pulling Leighton into my chest I let her cry her happy tears. “Every last item. That’s $82,000 worth of merchandise.”
“Damn we’re rich,” I joked holding her tight.
“We sure are because the grills that the models wore for the photos are on the site too. I made people aware that they have to be local to come in and be fitted for the grills. Each pair had sixty grills in stock, and they all sold out too.”
My brows hiked. “I have to make 180 grills?”
“You want me to put this money in your bank account?”
“Fuck yes.”
“Okay then,” she laughed.
“Damn. You did your big one.”
“We did our big one.”
I pecked her on the lips. “That we did.”
*** hiiii it’s me. This is a part of a group project.
There will be other authors to read so the goal was to keep it short and sweet.
