Chapter 13
When Kairo answered my phone and handled Brian, I wanted to lean over the console of his truck and swallow him whole. It was too early for that, but now that we’d crossed every line, I would do it with no hesitation.
A couple of days had passed since Kairo’s and my official date, and I had been floating on cloud nine ever since.
Everything about him was just . . . good.
We had stimulating conversations, he was attentive, and he was so damn easy on the eyes.
Listening to him when he talked made goosebumps cover my arms. I really enjoyed being around him.
When he kissed me on his couch, my whole body went up in flames.
It had been so long since I’d had any male affection that I couldn’t wait to have sex with him.
It didn’t even matter that it didn’t last that long; it was still enough for me.
Kairo’s dick was thick and veiny, and I couldn’t wait to be reacquainted with it.
I couldn’t help but compare Kairo to Brian, but to be honest, there was no comparison.
Brian and I didn’t have bad sex, but it wasn’t great either.
I think I dealt with it for the time I did because I really liked him, and I did cum every time.
It wasn’t until things changed between us that I realized it wasn’t as good as I thought it was.
Even if he never acted the way he did, I couldn’t see myself going back with him.
I didn’t do second chances because if you messed up the first time, I couldn’t trust you not to mess up again.
It wasn’t worth the headache to me. I was not trying to be out here worrying about what my dude was doing because of something he did in the past.
Kairo’s past wasn’t great, but I’d seen worse. He was honest with the women he dealt with, at least that was what he said. I couldn’t fault him for how anyone else took things if he told them what it was from the jump.
He told me he liked me, so I was open to seeing how things played out.
“Come on, Cash. Let’s go for a walk,” I called out to Cashmere because he was somewhere else in the apartment.
He came into the front room and looked at me like I was crazy.
“I know it’s early, but we have to go out regardless.” I grabbed his leash and put his harness on him.
I made sure I had my phone and keys before we walked out of the apartment.
Kairo and Shadow were outside when we exited the building.
“You don’t look happy to see me,” Kairo said as he approached me, then wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Sir, the sun isn’t even up, so no I’m not happy to see you.” I returned the kiss when Kairo pecked my lips.
Shadow and Cashmere greeted each other like dogs did, and I hated it every time. I couldn’t imagine smelling someone’s ass every time I had to greet them.
Kairo’s voice brought me out of my silly thoughts. “This time of morning is the best. It’s quiet and sets the precedent for the day.” He grabbed my hand and led me to the street.
Shadow was on his other side, while Cashmere was on my other side.
“So does getting up like normal people and having breakfast and coffee before thinking about stepping foot outside.”
Kairo’s chuckle filled the otherwise quiet air. A car or two passed us, but that was it.
I wasn’t sure how he convinced me to get up and walk that early.
“Trust me, by the time we finish walking, you’ll be asking to walk with me this early all the time.”
I cut my eyes at him as we turned a corner. On the horizon, it looked like the sun was on its way up. I wouldn’t be mad if I saw it, but I preferred to see it from my window, not being outside.
It was literally just us and whatever animals were out that time of morning. The birds barely chirped.
“I doubt it. I think we’ll stick to our normal time. Maybe you can try walking later, then we can compare what time is better.”
“I can do that, but I already know the answer.” He smirked.
“Whatever. Anyway, everything is all set for the event. Are you excited?”
I spent the last few days finalizing everything for the summer bash, and I was pleased with the ideas we had in mind.
Everything seemed to fall in place; I just prayed it stayed that way.
I did manage to find some backups for a few things just in case.
I didn’t know how the other events went, but I was confident the town would love it.
I had never planned anything this big before, but I wouldn’t mind doing it again.
At least, as of now. I wasn’t sure if my mind would change once the day came.
“I am. I can’t thank you enough for helping with it. I know everyone is going to be excited about the things we have set up. And the food, I can’t wait to eat it all.”
There was a slight chill in the air, but heat soared through my body when Kairo looked at me and licked his lips after he said eat it all.
“You’re welcome. I’m glad I can help.”
“You’ll be compensated for it soon.” He looked me up and down again.
“You don’t have to, but I won’t turn down a gift.” A smile tugged on my lips.
I did what I did because he asked, and as his assistant, I thought it was part of my job. I wasn’t expecting anything in return, but I wasn’t opposed to it either.
Kairo kissed my cheek and said, “But I want to give you something. You took time out of your day to help me, and you didn’t have to. You being my assistant is during work hours, and that wasn’t. So again, I appreciate you.”
“I was happy to help.”
We continued walking and talking for another twenty minutes before we walked back to my building.
We wanted to make sure both dogs got their exercise and used the bathroom as much as they could.
Kairo and I had to be at the station, so we couldn’t be out for too long.
He said he had a meeting, so he wouldn’t be in until a little later than me.
Kairo rubbed the inside of my palm with his thumb as we stood in front of my building. The sun had finally come out, and I could already tell it was going to be a warm day.
“Thank you for walking with me this morning. I wish we didn’t have to go to work and could just chill all day, but we will have time for that soon.” He placed a soft kiss to the corner of my mouth. “I can’t wait to see you later.” Another kiss, this time on my lips.
“Me either.”
We shared one more kiss, then he waited for us to enter the building before he walked down the street.
The morning flew by once I got to work. While Kairo was gone, I kept myself occupied with all the paperwork that needed to be filed or shredded.
Since I started, we made a good dent in the piles, but there was still so much more to go through.
I wasn’t sure about some stuff, so I made a separate pile for Kairo to check whenever he had free time.
“You doing alright, Mycah?” Donna asked as she approached my desk.
I lifted my head to give her eye contact. I understood when people were busy, but I couldn’t stand approaching someone’s desk and they kept their head down. Not giving someone eye contact was rude.
“Yes, ma’am. Still trying to get through this paperwork, but I’m handling it.”
“Good. I just wanted to check in with you again.”
“Thanks, I appreciate that.”
She smiled, then walked away. I was surprised she didn’t ask me any questions about Kairo this time.
I returned my focus to the papers in front of me.
I had grabbed Kairo a coffee when I stopped to get mine, even though he said he would be in later.
I figured he could just warm it up whenever he wanted it.
I walked into the break room to make myself a cup of tea since it had been a few hours since I had coffee.
I was thankful nobody was there because I didn’t feel like talking.
My phone buzzed, and I smiled when I saw my mother’s good morning text.
I hadn’t gotten any more calls from Brian since Kairo answered my phone, and I prayed it stayed that way.
If I had known it was that easy to get rid of him, I would have told Elias about the calls and let him handle it.
I didn’t want anything to do with Brian, but I didn’t want anything bad to happen to him either. I was certain that he wouldn’t like the outcome if he tried to bother me again after what Kairo said to him. I didn’t want that on my conscience.
“I know another man ain’t making you smile like that.”
I jumped when I heard Kairo’s voice. I was too busy responding to my mother, so I didn’t even hear him enter. I put the phone in my pocket and turned to face him.
He leaned against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. His muscles strained against his shirt. Since he had meetings all morning, he had on black pants, with a black blazer, white shirt, and black tie. His shoes were also black, as well as his frames. He looked so good.
“For your information it was my mother.”
Kairo pushed himself off the wall and walked toward me.
“Oh yeah? I hope so because I’m not one to share, doll baby.” He pushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
He leaned in to kiss me, but the sound of footsteps halted his movements. Kairo put space between us and slid his hands into his pockets just as someone entered the break room.
“I just wanted to let you know that I was back from my meetings and that I’ll be in my office if you need me,” Kairo declared.
“Thanks. I do have some paperwork that I’m not sure what to do with.”
“Okay, just bring it to my office when you can.” He turned to the intruder. “Hey, Mark.” Kairo tipped his head at me, then left the break room.
I fixed my tea the way I liked, then left. Kairo and I almost got caught, and that was the last thing we needed.
Kairo’s eyes were on me as I walked back to my desk, and I secretly blushed when he winked at me.
When I sat down, I felt my phone vibrate again.
Kairo:
Come over tonight and bring Cashmere.
Me:
Okay.
I spent the rest of the day anxious to spend more uninterrupted time with Kairo. I didn’t want to assume that I was staying the night, but since he told me to bring Cash, I would prepare myself just in case.
