CHAPTER EIGHT
TAYLOR
Taylor got off the phone with Whitney and let out a troubled sigh. She’d called because she’d decided to stay in New York for a couple of weeks while she and Cooper went over the novel she’d just finished. Meeting and critiquing the book in person was so much more convenient that staying there made sense. They were also having fun picking out furniture for his new condo, the home they’d soon share. A wedding date hadn’t been set, but with both their mothers wanting a summer wedding next year, they were trying to choose one according to available venues.
Dani and Brad were planning on a Christmas wedding, which made a summer wedding for Taylor and Cooper workable. Whitney had no prospects in sight because she had no interest in a new relationship with a man after suffering from the dysfunctional one with Zane.
Taylor glanced over at Cooper. With his chocolate-brown hair and hazel eyes behind horn-rimmed glasses, he was the cutest book editor she’d ever imagined. He glanced up at her and smiled.
Taylor’s heart pulsed with happiness and a surge of lust. She, who’d never experienced deep love, now knew what she and some of her characters had been missing.
Still thinking of Whitney, Taylor called Dani. “I’m really worried about Whitney. There is some crazy online chatter from the group of Zane’s fans about how Ross Roberts is her next victim in her path of destruction.”
“What? Why Ross?” Dani asked.
“Apparently a visitor to Lilac Lake took a picture of Ross and Whitney together, claiming they were now a couple. It’s not true, but that won’t matter. The photos and gossip have stirred up the anger of that radical group of Zane’s fans, and they are threatening to make Whitney pay for what she’s done. It’s all crazy, of course.”
“Crazy, but dangerous,” said Dani. “I don’t like it. I haven’t spent much time with Whitney lately, but I’ll make sure to see her today. And whether she likes it or not, I’m calling Nick. Weird things like this can turn deadly.”
Taylor was shaken. The thought of anything happening to her beautiful, talented sister brought tears to her eyes. “Tell Nick I’ll pay for any protection he thinks she needs. We need to keep her safe.”
“I know some people will think we’re worrying about nothing, but I don’t want to be someone who wished she’d acted on such information and didn’t. Know what I mean?”
“Oh, yes. I feel the same way.” Taylor ignored the look of concern Cooper shot her way and said, “If necessary, I’ll come right home.”
