CHAPTER FOURTEEN

DANI

That night, when Dani saw Nick’s car in the driveway next door, she couldn’t stop a smile from spreading across her face. She hadn’t been kidding when she’d told Whitney there was a spark between the two of them that anyone could see.

She glanced over at Brad, absently stroking Pirate’s shiny black fur as he read something in the paper. They were sitting outside as usual and had finished a delightful meal of grilled filets of beef, a green lettuce salad, and fresh cut-up fruit for dessert. Dani was much more comfortable in the kitchen now, which pleased both her and Brad.

Brad looked up, saw her attention on him, and grinned. “What’s up?”

“Nick’s car is parked next door. That makes me happy. Whitney has been feeling down lately, and I want to see her enjoying herself.”

Brad frowned. “Are you trying to be a matchmaker?”

“Not really. I just want my sisters to be as happy as I am,” she said, rising and climbing into his welcoming lap.

She leaned against him, enjoying the solid feel of his chest and the way his hands circled her back in comforting strokes. Though they often worked at the development together she never tired of being with him. His enthusiasm for her plans at The Meadows and the new consulting company she was setting up meant everything to her after her work at the firm she used to work for in Boston was all but ignored.

Since meeting Brad and falling in love with him, Dani’s entire life had changed for the better. GG had always told her that life is one big circle after another. Dani believed she might not have even met Brad if GG hadn’t gifted her sisters and her the cottage.

Thinking of it now, she wondered how soon the furniture would come and when she and her sisters could live there. The question of Mrs. Maynard’s ghost had faded into the background with all their activities, but Dani was certain her sisters wanted closure as much as she.
