They saved my life the same way a butcher saves meat—by deciding it’s theirs. It was just supposed to be a road trip with new friends, heading to Dallas to see a concert for a band I barely listen to.

But one night on a rural road somewhere in rural Texas, my reality crashes down and becomes about one thing only. Survival.

Waking up on a meat hook with my friends screaming as they’re cut to pieces nearly breaks me, but when I find a weapon of my own, all I can think of is that I only have one choice. Fight back.

But even when I’ve escaped the monsters who sought to sell parts of me to the highest bidder, I’m not free.

With a chainsaw in my hands and blood staining my skin, the two men who find me aren’t afraid of me. I thought I escaped the monsters. I was wrong. I’ve just traded one kind for another.

And if I’m not careful, I won’t just die in this place— I’ll become part of it.
