Chapter 54

Keith pushed the bathroom door open to find Michelle, true to her word, lounging in the bathtub. He unbuttoned his shirt and kicked off his boots. “I know there’s room in the tub for two, so will you let me join you?”
She cocked her brow. “I wasn’t kidding when I told Samantha that we were taking a bath together.”
He dropped his jeans and boxers before sliding behind her in the tub. He wrapped his arm around her upper chest as his legs twined with hers. “I know I didn’t properly introduce you, but that’s because I don’t want her anger to affect you.”
“She sounded more jealous than anything.”
“Chip told me last week that she’s blowing through money and mentioned a reconciliation.”
Michelle tensed. “Do you want that?”
“Hell no. Why would I when I have the woman of my dreams right here?”
“Do you think she’ll try to turn your sons against me before we meet?”
“There’s a chance she’ll try, but, honey, my boys are smart enough to see right through the lie.”
Michelle closed her eyes as she relaxed again. “I hope so.” She rolled her head against his chest and opened her eyes. “This view is spectacular. I might never leave this room.”
Keith chuckled. “You haven’t seen the views from the other rooms yet. Or the deck, for that matter.”
“I’m excited about wine and cheese tonight.”
“Chip made us reservations at a nice restaurant in town.”
“Looking forward to it.”
“Our first appearance together since the night we danced.”
Michelle’s heart quickened. “Well, when you put it that way?—”
“Stop. I can feel your breathing accelerate. Honey, be honest. Why the fear?”
Tears stung her eyes, but admitting her inner fears to him was easier when she wasn’t looking at him. “If no one knows, then the breakup will be easier. If people find out, then I’ll be the fool for thinking I captured your heart.”
He kissed the top of her head. “You have captured my heart. There isn’t going to be a breakup. I want the world to see how lucky I am to have you .” He pulled her closer to him. “I’m the one who should be worried that you’ll walk away when you realize I’m not some character I play on a movie screen.”
“I’m glad you’re not. Your imperfections let me know that you’re a real man.”
“Imperfections? What do you mean? I’m not perfect?”
Michelle laughed. “Pretty close, but you do leave the toilet seat up.”
A sheepish grin crossed his face. “It’s been so long since I had to remember. I’ll try to be better. Anything else?”
“Not yet. I’ll let you know if I find something though.”
“I’m sure you will.” He bent to kiss her shoulder. “I’m going to get out so you can finish your bath. I’ll meet you in the great room when you’re ready.” He glanced out the window. “Sunset is approaching, so hurry, okay?”
Michelle sat up straight. “I won’t be long.”
