Chapter 7

Chapter Seven

ROMAN

As soon as the door clicks shut behind Clover, Arnold tosses me a shit-eating grin.

I make my way out of the camera’s view. “Don’t say it.”

“I’m not saying anything,” he says, voice full of amusement.

I give a joking eye roll and take a swig from my water bottle. That chemistry read felt… different. Electric even. Like she really was Moonbeam, and I really was Eclipse. It felt like we were meant to do this together, and I can’t say I’ve ever felt that strongly about another actress before.

She may have next to nothing on her resume, but that doesn’t change the fact that she just blew every other actress who auditioned out of the water. Even though I don’t want to admit it, the chemistry read we just did was miles above the one I had with Hailey McDonald as well.

Glancing over to the casting team’s table, their eyes are all glowing, confirming that that did in fact go as well as I felt it did.

I groan, not ready to outwardly admit to the room how wrong I was. “It’s going to be her, isn’t it?”

“I mean, we could always go with the lovely Ms. Treadway,” Arnold laughs.

“Over my dead body.”

“Come on, man, you have to admit that chemistry read was unreal,” Arnold says. Gesturing to my face, he laughs. “And thanks for taking one for the team.”

With a smirk, I run my hand along my jawline. Say what you will about Clover Daly, but the girl has a mean arm on her.

“So what’s next then?” I look to Arnold, who looks toward the casting team.

They all bob their heads in agreement like one multi-headed organism.

“We show Deacon the footage, get sign-off and fire off the papers to Clover,” Arnold says. He’s like a kid in a candy store, mind racing with all the possibilities.

I sigh and pat him on the back before heading toward the door.

“You play nice, Roman,” he shouts before I leave.

“Fine, fine.” I give a mock salute before exiting the room.

As I walk away, excitement fills me with each step.

Sure, Clover wasn’t my first, second, or even third choice, but after what happened in there?

I know she’s right for the role. Because when it came to that chemistry read, Clover Daly did blow me away.
