Chapter 10 #4
He didn’t even need Gannon to cop to anything. This moment told Max everything that he needed to know. He was a traitor. The lowest kind of snake to have around you in fact. Gannon was the nigga that would smile in your face while stabbing you in your back.
“What you can trust is… if we don’t get some cooperation around here… bodies will drop. It will be the people you claim to love and care so much about, and I will enjoy sending them all back to the Creator,” Eirian disclosed.
“You threatening me?” Max grimaced, eyes narrowing into thin slits.
“You can read that however you want.” Eirian emphasized calmly.
Max cut his gaze over at Gannon first, then back to Eirian.
Bobbing his head, he knew what it was. This meant war.
Gannon didn’t say much else, but guilt plagued his eyes as Max soaked him in one last time.
He turned to go, leaving both men standing there as he slammed the office door shut behind him. Gannon spun on Eirian.
“What the fuck was that, bro?” Gannon questioned, anxious.
“Just testing the waters.” Eirian shot to his feet. “Don’t trip. Max won’t be a problem after tonight,” he said, buttoning his suit jacket.
Gannon watched him round the desk and head for the door. He didn’t know what he meant by that, but it worried him for more than one reason.
Luna paced back and forth while on her cell trying to get an Uber to come and get her.
She was over this shit, and if she went back in that club, she was bound to take Finn’s and his little bitch’s head off.
She couldn’t believe how na?ve she’d been to him.
She really should have known better. Niggas like Finn didn’t change.
He’d shown her who he was, but she still wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and think being with her would change him somehow.
Like Yoni always said, a man didn’t change unless he wanted to.
It took a special kind of woman for that sometimes too.
“Luna!” His voice was in her ears, stalling her heart and making her body react even though she didn’t want to.
Damn him for making her feel something. Minx wasn’t far behind him.
“Leave me the hell alone, Finn!” Luna shouted. “Fuck you, okay!”
“Nah, that shit ain’t okay, and I will fuck that shit right out of you, so check that fucking attitude. This shit ain’t even what you think.”
“What I know is that you are not going to change. Not for me. You’re selfish as fuck!”
“I ain’t touched that girl in weeks. That’s my word. Ever since me and you…” He shook his head, feeling defeated on some sucker shit right now.
He didn’t explain shit to bitches, but Luna wasn’t that.
“I ain’t been with nobody else, a’ight. And you know this shit because I been spending every fucking night in your bed.”
“And what are you doing during the day, Finn? Hmm?” Her brows dipped above her sexy eyes.
“I’m on the block and doing other shit to get money. The fuck you think? You think I’m surrounded by a bunch of different hoes all day and fuckin’ on ’em? Get the fuck out of here. The only one I’m making time for is yo’ silly ass.”
Her gaze softened, and eventually her eyes fell on the ground.
She sniffled a little, and Minx folded her arms across her chest, shivering from the cold gust of air.
Goose bumps prickled her arms, and a pair of strong ones suddenly grabbed her.
Rose peeled out of his jacket and slipped it across her shoulders.
“Out here in this skimpy ass shit,” he groaned, eyes falling on her ass in the dress as she accepted his gesture.
She turned, smirking cutely at him as he put an arm around her.
“Let me take you home,” Finn told Luna, stepping closer and slipping an arm around her. “You can cuss me out all the way there, but you ain’t walking away from this. I’m not letting that shit happen.”
“Fine,” she reluctantly agreed with a pout on her lips.
“Give him hell, Luna! Fuck that!” Minx joked.
Finn turned and flipped her off, and she cackled with Rose. Finn slid his arm across Luna’s shoulder, and they strolled back toward their friends. Max stormed out the back exit when they gathered in a semi circle. He was upset. That much was clear.
“Max, what’s up?” Rose greeted him.
“This mothafucka Gannon. We need to prepare to make some moves. I gotta go home and talk to Mila,” Max reported.
“A’ight, well, Finn here is taking Luna home. You mind if I just ride with you?” Rose asked.
“Yeah, I’ll go get the car,” Max countered, taking a cigarette from his pocket and sparking it. “Minx, you ready?”
“Yeah, Luna, you good?” Minx turned to her girl.
Finn still held her against his chest with one arm across the front of her as he looked down into her cleavage and licked his lips.
“Yeah, she a’ight. I got her,” he insisted.
“Nigga, I wasn’t talking to you.” Minx mushed his head playfully.
“Get fucked up,” he warned, and she rolled her eyes.
“I’m good, Minx. I’ll just call you in the morning,” Luna told her as Finn pulled her toward his parked car.
Max already crossed the lot to his truck waiting. He was still smoking his cigarette when he opened the door and climbed inside. Rose spun Minx around and held her close by the collar of his jacket she was now rocking. Eyes linking with hers, he admired the sparkle there.
“We still have some things we need to talk about,” he said to her, admiring her full mouth as she licked her lips.
“Oh yeah? And what’s that?” she queried.
“You know you a part of a nigga, Minx. You the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing when I close my eyes. This shit between us is rooted, shorty. I don’t share that with anybody else.
I don’t want to lose it either. So whatever you need from me, I want to give.
No cap,” Rose assured, melting her in his embrace.
She stood on her toes, and with one hand draped behind her back he brought her closer.
Locking lips in a passionate kiss, Rose took her breath away.
Monica’s “Love All Over Me” might as well have been playing in her head.
Shit was beautiful and filled her with the greatest feeling.
Rose spoke to her in a way she’d only dreamed of hearing.
This was real though, and he was being sincere.
“Come on, let’s get you home,” Rose said, leading her toward Max’s truck.
“So does this mean you’re going to be like my man and stuff?” Minx teased as he peered down his nose at her with the sexiest grin.
Rose’s other senses suddenly tingled. He had no idea why as he scoped their surroundings.
Max said he had a couple of guys in the lot, but he didn’t spot anyone.
Walking up on the F-150 when he heard Max turn the ignition switch, he knew something wasn’t right.
Before Rose knew what was happening, the truck exploded, sending a blast throughout the parking lot.
Rose felt it from where he stood with Minx, and it sent them flying backward in the air.
Flames from Max’s obliterated truck filled the air.
Debris covered the ground, and people screamed and scattered for safety.
His back on the ground, unable to move, Rose turned.
A few feet away he spotted Minx. Facedown, covered in black ash and a large bloody wound on top of her head.
Blood spilled down her face and her eyes were closed.
Not sure if she was breathing, he tried to lift his head.
“Minx!” Rose shouted with what little strength he had.
To be continued…
