EPILOGUE

GABE

“I want one,” Taylor says, her gaze never leaving Jennifer, Mark and Amelia’s newborn daughter.

Seeing the woman I adore holding a baby has the same feeling bubbling up in me, but I wasn’t going to say it out loud or pressure Taylor.

Our relationship has been perfect other than the topic of children.

Being fourteen years older, I’ve already waited quite a while to start a family, so naturally I was quite eager once Taylor accepted my marriage proposal.

Having a gorgeous and highly desirable fiancée also played into my eagerness to get the ball rolling on the baby making.

Taylor wasn’t quite ready yet, though. She wanted children, just not now. Maybe in a few years, she told me late one night when we were discussing such things. Besides, she was only in her twenties, her biological clock hadn’t even begun to tick yet.

Leaning down, I kiss her forehead and whisper, “I want two.”

Carefully not to jostle the sleeping baby, she reaches up and bops me on the nose. “No getting greedy, one baby at a time.”

“One is plenty for us,” Amelia says from her position on the couch.

For a woman that’s given birth only a week ago she looks radiant, and Mark is the very picture of a proud father, his loving gaze switching back and forth between Amelia and their daughter.

It still shocks me that my asshole coworker is now a devoted husband and loving father.

Plus, he had a big hand in setting me up with the love of my life, so I guess I should lay off the asshole comments, even if they’re only in my head.

“She’s so beautiful,” Taylor coos, her finger lightly grazing the newborn’s pudgy cheek.

“I know,” Amelia sighs.

“Why wouldn’t she be?” Mark demands. Amelia elbows him sharply and that shuts him up.

“Looks just like her mother,” I say to egg Mark on.

It doesn’t have the desired effect and instead he merely grins. “That she does.”

We spend another thirty minutes with the new parents and after several thank you’s for our gifts, we leave to give the family of three some much needed time to themselves.

On the drive back to our house, Taylor’s hand gently rubs back and forth along my thigh, coming closer and closer to where my cock is achingly hard at her touch.

“What do you think about having a baby before the wedding?” she asks.

“Why can’t we have both?”

Her hand pauses. “If I get pregnant I won’t fit in my wedding dress.”

I cover her hand with my own and guide it upwards until she’s covering the bulge of my cock. “Getting pregnant might take time, just because it happens to some right away doesn’t mean it will for us.”

She squeezes my erection, her clever fingers finding the outline of my cockhead and briskly rubbing it. “That’s true, so maybe I should stop my birth control now.”

My breath catches at both her touch and her words. “Are you sure?” I ask. This is the first time she’s brought up actually ditching her pills.

“I am. I love you and I know I want children with you. It seems silly to wait any longer because you’re right. It might take months or even a year to get pregnant.”

“What about Monica?” I joke. “Is she ready to give up her status as the baby?”

Allergy medicine alone wasn’t enough to control my reaction to Taylor’s beloved tabby, so I ended up going on allergy shots.

It’s been a long process, and I probably have a year of shots still ahead of me, but Monica and I can now successfully share the same living space without me sneezing and/or expiring on the spot.

Which is a good thing because I’m now her preferred human, something that makes Taylor pout and mutter ‘traitor’ under her breath when she sees the fat cat up on my chest purring her little heart out.

“I think Monica can cope. But will you be okay with litter patrol? Pregnant women aren’t supposed to touch dirty cat litter.”

I take my eyes from the road and tease, “Is that so?”

My lovely bride-to-be blushes. “I might have been doing some reading up on pregnancy.”

“Because of Amelia,” I say, knowing full well that isn’t the case but giving her an easy out.

“Of course.” Her hand resumes stroking me and if she isn’t careful I’ll be pulling the SUV over and we’ll be doing the practicing much sooner than discussed.

“When you agreed to meet me at the farmers market, did you think we would end up here?” she asks suddenly.

“No.” I grin and grab her hand off my cock and admire the diamond engagement ring flashing on her left ring finger. “But the moment I saw you I hoped we would get the chance to be here.”

“Really?”

“Do you think I buy produce for just anyone?” I tease. “You were the one for me. I never doubted that, and I never will.”

“I love you, Gabe.”

“I love you more,” I murmur, meaning every word. She might have once believed I was the wrong man for her, but I have every faith that I’ve proved myself to be exactly the right kind of wrong she needed.
