Epilogue
EPILOGUE
QUINN
I snap another photo and then burst into laughter.
“Let me see it,” Miles says, coming up behind me. He wraps his arms around my hips and rests his chin on my shoulder. “That’s perfect.”
We arrived in the Maldives three days ago so that I could finish getting some content for one of my contracts. On my way back to Lovers that day five months ago, I reached out to my agent and told her that I needed to amend my contracts with all brands. It was tricky, but she was able to end some of them outright, while others were kind enough to find a new place for me with their company.
For some, I still travel, just not as often, and for others, I’m now the person behind the scenes creating the travel itinerary for the new social content creators.
It’s so perfect that I almost don’t believe this is my life some days.
Which is why we got here three days ago. I got some work done, and then my parents flew out to join Miles, Shadow, and me for another three days .
I lower the camera and grin at my parents.
Miles laughs harder as he looks at them and spots Shadow digging, the sand spraying both my Mom and Dad.
Miles shoos him away and smirks. Turns out, wherever we go, Shadow goes too. We are a package deal now, and my followers love every moment of it.
“I can’t believe we let you talk us into this,” my mother says. She and Dad grin at each other.
“Now dig us out,” my dad demands.
“Not so fast,” Miles says, and my eyes widen as he moves to stand between where both of my parents are buried in the Caribbean sand, looking like a couple of mermaids. “I have something to ask the two of you.”
“It can’t wait until later?” my mom asks.
“Nope,” Miles says. He reaches for my mom’s drink and holds the straw for her to take a sip. “You too?” he asks my dad.
Dad shakes his head, and even though he’s scowling, it’s a goofy scowl. The one where he’s trying to be mad but really isn’t.
“You see that girl?” Miles points over his shoulder. “I’ve been officially dating her for five months now, and it’s been the best five months of my life.”
My heart swells. I feel the exact same way. We chose to stay in Lovers with the exception of two one-week vacations. It’s not normal for me, but that’s okay. Life with Miles is my new normal, and I love every second of it.
In fact, my parents have come to Lovers twice now, which has brought joy to the others who live there, too. But this trip is the first one where my parents came to meet us for a couple of days.
“I just don’t think five months is going to be enough for me,” Miles goes on, and my bottom lips drop. What’s he doing?
“But the two of you”—Miles points at my parents—“are a hard couple to discreetly get into a room without Quinn tagging along.” He leans in close to them and loudly whispers, “I think she’s a little obsessed with me.”
I kick some sand at him.
“But I’m more than a little obsessed with her, too, so it’s fair. That’s why I’d like to ask her to marry me soon.”
I gasp, and so does my mom.
Dad is beaming.
“I just need your blessing, and trapping you in the sand, on a beach where you two met thirty years ago, seemed like the best place to do it.”
“She told you that?” my mom asks with tears in her eyes.
“And you remembered.” Dad is more than impressed.
Miles turns back to me and grabs my hand to pull me close and press a soft kiss to my lips.
“When it comes to Quinn, I don’t forget a thing.”
I kiss him again, and my dad hollers, “You don’t have my blessing yet!”
“Oh, right.” Miles straightens and lets go of me. “What do you think?”
“I think if you can dig us out in under five minutes, the answer is yes.”
Miles and I share a look and then drop to the sand and start digging as fast as we can.
Once upon a time, I had five minutes to change his summer, and now we have five minutes to change our life.
I’ll let you in on a little secret.
Win or lose, I’m marrying this man someday.
