Chapter 14 #3
“All hail the muthafuckin’ king.” He dapped me before his eyes bounced over to Ky. “Finally I get to meet the woman who flipped his world upside down. Damn she’s pretty as hell, Sim. I see why you’re running around here buying rings and shit.”
“Ay, isn’t your wife weeks from delivering your tenth child? Watch that shit,” I warned, which only made him go harder.
“Fifth, don’t put that bad karma on me when you know Lil is fertile as hell. I look at her wrong and she gets pregnant, but back to this one; what do you expect when you walk up in here with a beauty like this?”
I shook my head as he went for Ky’s hand, pulling her into a hug I had to snatch her out of. Smith was my people but he wasn’t about to be all up in my lady’s personal space. Holding her against my chest while she faced Smith, I made introductions.
“Ky, this is one of my closest friends, Smith.”
“Closest and his barber. I keep him with a fresh cut so women like you are always sniffing around his ugly ass.”
I laughed hard while Ky tilted her head back, frowning.
“Chill, man. Don’t say shit like that. She already doesn’t trust my motives.”
“And she shouldn’t but I see that big ass diamond weighing her down so she trusts something.” He looked right at Ky, winked, then leaned over the counter.
“Congrats. I didn’t think anyone had it in them to lock this one down.”
Ky blushed and looked up at me before addressing Smith. “Thank you and the jury’s still out on just how locked down he is. Let’s call this a trial run, he has a lot of work to do.”
“Damn, Asim. She’s not playing with your ass, is she?” He laughed lightly before addressing Ky again. “This your first time doing this?”
“No, I’ve been a few times.”
Smith grinned, nodding. “Well shit, she really is the right one.”
“She most definitely is the right one but it doesn’t have a damn thing to do with her ability to shoot a gun.” I kissed Ky on the cheek then stepped around her. “What number we in?”
“Doesn’t matter. We’re empty for your session. I figured you would want it that way.”
I offered him a nod before leading Ky to the back. She had a Ruger SR9C, which was little as shit but decent. My preference was a Desert Eagle, so I grabbed one of each gun before guiding us to the sixth lane. It was the widest because it was typically used for training.
“So your barber owns a gun range?”
“Yeah, that and a few other things, but most of his money comes from the shops.”
“And you’ve known him for a while?” she questioned after I handed over her headphones which she positioned around her neck.
“Since we were teenagers, why?”
She shrugged and waited for me to set up. “I don’t know, you two seem close and you’re particular about people. I’ve only ever seen you around Amir and Kane.”
I chuckled at the thought. She was right. I didn’t fuck with people too tough. My circle was small for a good reason.
“I learned a long time ago to only keep the essentials. Dead weight creates unnecessary problems.”
I tapped her thigh, motioning for her to step up next to me.
She pulled her headphones from around her neck and over her head but I didn’t need them so I skipped that step.
We both got in position before I lifted the gun for Ky and handed it over.
She smirked and wrapped her small hands around it, opening her stance, squaring her shoulders, and extending her arms with the gun locked in place in front of her.
I could already tell she didn’t know shit that would save her life if needed but I hit the button to prove a point.
When the target moved into place her eyes lifted to me and I offered a nod, signaling for her to go.
I watched as her finger inched back on the trigger.
When the first squeeze released a shot, her body jerked.
I chuckled and tapped Ky’s side, which had her lowering the gun and pulling her headphones off.
“What?”
I lifted mine with one hand and fired three shots that landed one right under the other—head, chest, stomach.
Ky’s eyes stretched widely as she stared at the target she had completely missed before looking up at me again.
“Who the hell are you?”
I laughed and kissed her cheek. “A man who knows his shit and I’m about to teach you. I see we have a lot to cover. I have to undo all the shit you think you know.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She frowned and I took the gun from her hand, firing three more shots. They landed damn near in the same place as my first three.
“That basic shit you learned is cool but life doesn’t happen that way.
If somebody is trying to harm you, they’re not gonna give you time to get in the perfect stance, aim, and line up a shot.
You have to be able to keep your cool and function off instinct.
That’s what I’m about to teach you. It will take time but you’ll eventually get comfortable with handling your gun as if it’s an extension of you. You’re learning from the best.”
“Not modest at all, are you?”
“You’re fucking with a real one, Ky. Never forget that.” I handed over her piece so we could get to work. She would eventually get to where I needed her to be but it would take some time. As long as she trusted and followed my lead, Ky would have this shit down in no time.
