Epilogue

She’s spectacular.

It doesn’t matter that I’ve seen her do this sort of thing a

hundred times, I’ll forever be in awe of her.

My wife.

My teammate.

The girl of my dreams.

We’re at one of the biggest comic book conventions in the

world, and my wife is a rock star. The crowds are going wild as they see her

and listen to her, and all I can do is stand back with pride.

I have it easy. I’m the guy who carries the bags and then stands

back until I’m needed. I think back to the years when our roles were reversed.

The sacrifices she made. Everything from putting her career on hold for me,

moving every six months, watching hundreds of baseball games while listening to

me stress over every play, all while embracing my rigid routines and dietary

restrictions. And she did it all out of love.

For me.

Now, it’s my turn to be here for her.

And there’s no place else I’d rather be.

There are two questions I get asked the most while I’m at

events with her. First, do I miss playing baseball?

No, I don’t. I miss winning games. If every game was like a

World Series game, I would still be playing, but I do not miss the grind of

being a Major League Baseball player. However, I’ve found my love for baseball

again by helping the next generation of players.

The other question is how it feels to trade carrying

equipment bags for carrying Ashla Voss’s bags.

The answer? It feels great. I get a front-row seat—or a

backstage view, depending on where we are—for the magic.

And trust me, my wife brings love and light and magic

everywhere she goes.

I mean, are you kidding me? The way the crowds react to her

is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Their love and enthusiasm not only for

Ashla but also for the entire Galactic Wars universe is wild. But

seeing Ella Rose’s face, the way she smiles at each and every fan, and how much

she truly appreciates their support, is a sight to behold.

She’s a legend.

I think back on the path we took to get here. It was far

from smooth. We had more than our fair share of trials. But the one

constant—the one thing that never changed—was how we felt about each other.

And I’ll never take that for granted.

The crowd erupts in applause, and I see Ella waving and

coming down off the stage with the biggest smile. She spots me and waves before

jogging over, and I instantly sweep her up into my arms.

“You did great!” I assure her.

“Be sure to go to booth twenty-two later on today, where

Ella Lucas will be signing autographs,” the announcer calls out, and we both

pull back with wide eyes and grins.

“Twenty-two,” she says excitedly.

“It does seem wild how often it comes up for us.” I pick up

her bags and let her lead the way.

“Because it’s lucky,” she says with a wink. “Just like us.”

And I couldn’t agree more.
