chapter six

Saturday morning I was still struggling to get out of bed at nine thirty am since I had slept mindlessly asleep yesterday night thinking about motivating myself to get up out of bed to take a shower, call the diner manager's digit, go over my notes and go back to the ice rinks attempting to start with the basics before I did everything on my to-do list. I was craving blueberry muffins for breakfast but my mind was telling me to get a cup of yoghurt with granola and creams because my body was my temple so I needed to treat it healthily by eating a healthier, more fulfilling breakfast.

A couple of hours before I had gotten off the phone with the diner manager telling me that they had already finished filling up their job applicant spaces and I was back to square one again if one door closed then another one would open what I had kept telling myself for positive mindset motivation.

In the meantime, I went out to a cafeteria called Lucero Nero to buy myself some breakfast including my lunch with scalding tomato soup for later today because I figured why not just kill two birds with one stone to save me time from making myself lunch or buying food in the campus cafeteria.

"Hey, Avena and hi, Jessa," said Wyatt.

Both Avena and Wyatt sat down by my table including me in their deeply engrossed conversation about how Marvel was better than DC and I had to set the record straight to them about how Marvel was completely better than DC.

It was two against one as Avena and I was trying to convince Wyatt to be a Marvel fan like we were.

I was very heartbroken after the Infinity War Avengers endgames for two weeks straight because Iron, the Black Panther and the black widow Natasha Romanoff like I was in love with their universe and felt like I had lost someone who I cared about.

Seemingly, the human brain can distinguish between a made-up fictional universe and our reality. I learned that from an old friend who was taking psychology classes which makes sense to me.

"Hi, guys. I think I prefer Marvel even if they did kill my favourite character off in the endgames." I voiced my opinions.

Today I have seriously learned my lesson about always doing things on time or maybe this waitress job just wasn't meant to be for me.

"Right? but by the way, DC walked so Marvel could run."Wyatt stated to me.

Two of them were debating on it and I saw the way that they were with each other because they were stealing glances including sitting close to one another as Avena blushed whenever he complimented her but the moral of the story was that they were both childhood friends not to mention the fact that he has a girlfriend too.

"I know right but I would always be a Marvel fan by heart," said Avena.

Avena high-five me as I was about to pack up my stuff into my bag, using a little coaster to help me carry my hot soup and rushing to get back to my housing building near campus when I entered the dormitory I saw a sticky note that tells me that Rochelle was going to a jazz club with her boyfriend Tristan today.

She has invited me to come but I already have plenty of stuff to do today along with attending the boy's hockey practice for a while now knowing that it was an extra curriculum job.

"On that note, I've to leave to put my soup in the fridge and Wyatt, can you please tell your coach that I'm free today during the afternoon for the hockey practices?" I asked Wyatt.

Later on, I arrived early to the ice rink to do some ice skating to the song called Your Soul by Rhodes slowly took a deep breath before I started skating while the song played.

I did the perfect twist swishing around the rink with a smile on my face when I noticed that I heard someone else clapping in the background I quickly gilded towards where he was standing by his teammates all hooting for me in a loud applause taking their time listening to their hockey coach, in the meantime, I waited for their team discussion to be over so I can introduce myself to them since my music was now paused watching the boys play hockey until I have stepped onto the ice again.

"You have changed your mind after all about my offer?" he asked me rather arrogantly.

"Well if you must know, life has another plan for me." I sighed truthfully to him.

Regardless, I got called by their hockey coach to come up to the front to introduce myself next I was demonstrated by using orange traffic cones as many as I could find to show them how to navigate through them neatly including twisting, turning and drifting perfectly which only took them fifteen minutes eventually, we moved forward to the next key step balance and team building bonding activities.

Moreover, I let them teach me a few hockey moves when I got the best idea at the time to do a dual figure skating competition instead of a single one because I didn't have to face the judges alone in the competition this time. Now all I needed was to find someone who knows how to skate until I realised that I was standing in an ice rink full of sweaty hockey players but how do I get one of them to agree to it?

"By the way, you're a remarkable figure skater-"

I interrupted him by moving us towards the audience area where the seats were to ask him a question regarding my new plan.

"I'm really happy you think that but I do have a little favour to ask you." I was hoping that he wouldn't say no to me even though the frontal cortex part of my brain thought it was a fabulous idea right now simply manifesting a yes from him at this moment when he asked "How about we do something in exchange for me to agree to help you?" he must have noticed how it sounded as he saw the reaction to his words on my face were loud and clear.

He chuckled a deep loud one as it vibrated through his belly up to his lungs and continued while shaking his head as he started to smirk again at the confused look on my face even when I bit into my lips too deeply into my thoughts not amused by him one bit.

I moved one step toward the plastic-wooden barrier that separated the audience from the players on the ice then I felt his hand on my left shoulder stop me from walking away from him.

"Oh, common. What I meant was that I will do this huge favor for you." he hesitated and then he continued to whisper the lost part quietly to me. "Let me meet you halfway here. I would do whatever you want me to do in exchange for you tutoring me in Philosophy."

Everyone was practically waiting for him except for the hockey team coach that has already left to go to his office we were sitting down here on the seats making a deal with each other and I thought to myself that I should have probably gone joined my friend who was at the jazz club with her boyfriend because they both told me that they were staying out late tonight until midnight, I nonetheless, I checked the time on my wristwatch on my left hand to see if can catch up with them after this conversation with Asher.

I released my breath and said "Okay, but there are no take-backies. I want you to be my skating partner."

We both shook hands on the pact to help each other on the day we needed the other person no matter what we were both getting equal things out of this studying and teamwork for the duet.

I heard a list of all the team names he could think of that made me laugh in amusement shortly after we had settled on one name but if it might need changing in the future then we would choose a different name.

"How about team Jass? What is your whole name by the way if you don't mind me asking?" he asked me.

Asher wasn't like the other hockey players for some reason I think that he has been a great friend to me as I feel like he won't judge me if we get to know each other and the time to tell him about my career as a figure skater was a hiatus because I wounded the back of my head including sprained my ankle.

Many layers of both of us have been hiding away from the rest of the world as we pretend to go through our lives wondering if we could ever achieve the goal of the dream that we have been dreaming about for years now.

Mainly, I was trying to figure out how to fit both of our schedules in for the same thing to see if we were able to do the tutoring as well as meet up with each other in the ice rink to practice our routine slowly over time I would learn more to be able to trust him.

"It is Jessamyn Davenport Burke."I bit my lips as I told him.

His eyes were brightened with the most widely smiled looking towards me while testing out my name as soon as it left his lips. "Jessamyn Davenport Burke. You have such a beautiful name and see you next Tuesday," he said to me.

Hurriedly picked up my phone as I walked towards the exit door and slightly turned around to see him salute me then I continued to walk on my way out of the ice rink to have a word with my agent and doctors if I could still sign up for the next champion as a couple rather than a single person this time.

I booked an appointment with both of them afterwards I called my mom to tell her the news she asked me if I certainly wanted to do next year's completion date for the Olympic gold media because she was worried that the same thing might happen if I keep pushing myself too hard during on the walk back to my dormitory campus room too tired to join them at the Jazz club.
