Chapter fifteen

The day of the first games was today so the coach made us all go over the last routine drilling us extra hard and explaining the importance of teamwork saying that each member of the team was just as important and that no no else got left behind or otherwise the ship would break into pieces in the toughest storm which got some of the players on my team thinking that in coach later.

I rushed to the field looking up at the bleachers to see my girl standing there cheering with her I saw one guy who was trying to flirt it was five minutes before the game and I had one of my Jersey in my hand for her to wear quickly coming up to the sideline gesture her over here to me.

"What are you doing over here when you have a game that was about to start-"

I interrupted her by handing her over my Jersey for her to wear on top of her long black sleeves t-shirt and said "I didn't trust the guy who was trying to flirt with you but here, wear my Jersey so, that nobody could make any assumptions okay."

And then Jessa laughed completely understanding what I was saying as she had distinctly caught on thinking that I was being desirous but she didn't say anything as she smiled happily when I kissed her forehead as she walked towards the bleachers not wanting to keep these people from waiting for the game to start because she was such an amazing, wonderful, considerate, caring, smart and insanely drop dead gorgeous girl. Now I resumed running back on the ice rink doing the coin flip to see which team started onside or offside the rinks and during this game, I had scored more than four points alongside my teammates against our opponents.

She was my lucky charm every single time I played against another team she would be there cheering for me with a stripe of yellow and purple paint on her cheeks to show her sportsmanship spirit clapping her hands and I was having great moments until I saw my dad standing in the middle row nonetheless, I kept on hoping that he doesn't think about talking to my girl because, after everything that had happened to her, she wouldn't need someone of terrible as he was to made her feel bad about herself.

Therefore, I watched on for a long while eventually the game resumed again which meant I was needed back on the court to play with my teammates again everything seemed to be fine but then my head wasn't in the game anymore as I was struck by a hockey puck on my head which flew by a hockey stick.

Never in all my life would I ever have expected that he would have gotten hurt as well as ended up in the hospital with a concussion which brings me back to a bad memory of my past and then I somehow brought back to my present running out of the bleacher to get closer to him however, the medic block my access to pass to get to him when all of sudden the coach was explaining something to the medics shortly after I was loud assess to the hospital ambulance.

"Who are you to this patient?" asked one of the ambulance women.

Out of nowhere, I started working out in my mind who was I to Asher and the simplest lie that I can think of came flowing out of my mouth naturally hoping that they would believe me enough as I chose to say out of these three options that I was his wife, Fiance or his girlfriend because I have to be a family member to go in the back of the ambulance with him.

I chose the second option to lie to them claiming that I was his fiance, nearly the new Ms Beckett, to allow me to follow them to the hospital, all my friends were calling me on my phone like crazy so we did a group chat video call to catch them on what was going on so far.

"I'm the patient, Asher Beckett's fiance Jessamyn."

History was seriously repeating itself no matter what I would always be there for him, especially when it comes to things like these I wasn't going to run away from him even though it does remind me of my accident anyways I was thankful that he only had a concussion with a sprained wrist because there were several hockey injuries could be pretty brutal depending on what they were. Meanwhile, we arrived at the hospital I saw the paramedic carrying him on a stretcher and I prayed for him to be alright not caring if I lost the figure skating competition since all that was important to me was the person who was lying down on a hospital bed.

If only I could turn back time to prevent this accident from happening yet I was too late no time machine could rectify this event in time.

I watched as his father was talking to the doctors as held his hand in mine thinking that it was my time to take care of him to return a decent favour to thank him for looking after me when I feeling too sick with a feverish cold and light headed a couple of weeks ago while I thought of all the jokes he would be cracking to try to lighten up the mood even if the world was dampened by the darkness he shows himself to be my saviour then I was already thinking of positive thoughts despite of those tears fell out of my eyes including rolling down my face suddenly I let out a breath of relief hearing him say my name in a quick short rushed of happiness burst straight right at me and immediately at this moment I pulled him in for a hug.

"Burkey, you must truly have missed me huh? It looks like our nurse and patient roles have been reversed too," he said teasingly with his casual cool smirk on his face.

An exhaled escaped from out my mouth ignoring all the looks that the other patient was giving us as i silently blushed previously embarrassed hitting his chest in annoyance especially if he keeps making innuendo jokes like that in front of other people then i heard him chuckled at my dismay trying to bite back my fighting smiles as my lips slowly started to curled up while i saw him patting an extra space on his hospital bed for me to sit next to him soon noticing that he smiles more when he saw me still wearing his hockey jersey before he began to wipes my own tears away from my eyes and eventually, i heard his heartbeat sped up on the heart rate monitor machine even when i rest my head on his shoulders as he keep on reassuring me that it doesn't hurt him but there was something about many athletes though no matter how many times they had been beaten, bruised, injured or crushed they would always rise up in spite of the ache a thousand times again because they were all naturally born fighters.

Anyone can stand up to rise to a challenge yet all it took was to have that strong mental mechanism coping mentally to learn how to balance under pressure to keep on skating whenever things get tough in life all it took was courage, bravery, resilient and hope to reach the highest of the tall of mountains to get to the top.

"Of course I missed you but it looks like your heart kept skipping a beat or maybe I should call the doctor to get that check for you," I said, ready to get off the bed but he stopped me by placing one of his hands on my thigh to gently stop me.

"I don't need to get it checked but stop and listen to what my heart is trying to tell you" he paused to chuckle his same deep velvety chuckle and then he continued to say. "Only the heart knows what the human minds don't know yet."

I did exactly what he told me to do which was to listen to his heartbeat with my head delicately pressed up against his chest hearing both his heartbeat and listening to him breathing until his dad walked straight into a hospital room along with the doctor wanting to make a good impression on his dad, I climbed out the bed standing up straight holding out my hand to shakes his dad one during the doctor talking to Asher about his medical states waiting patiently except this wasn't the ideal way to meet his parent. Life gave me lemons so I somehow managed to keep making lemonade out of their need to make the best of everyday life then his dad shook my hand about to introduce myself before I could talk the doctor called both his dad and me to come over there calling me his fiance which he did not injected as the doctor say it.

"Miss Burke, there is nothing wrong with your fiance's heart rate because I checked twice and everything came back stable for now." the middle-aged nurse told me.

The smallest smile I could muster as nervous escaped from my mouth right now soon I turned around to hear his chuckle at the state of my red blushed cheeks not having any objection to it watching me shrugged my shoulders as I tried to explain to the both of them about how they only let me in the ambulance van being a member of his family in my defence it was the only thing that I could think of earlier which in my opinion was the best I could do.

"Hello, Mr Beckett, sorry about the confusion to due the nurse calling me your son's fiance....it was the only way they would let me in the ambulance next to him and my name is Jessasynm in case you're wondering a frie-"

Certainly not sure if I was the only one in this room who felt the tension in his hospital went up

by twenty per cent after my constant rumbling when my phone vibrated to a text message from Charlie showing me a celebration video by all of the hockey team dancing to the song Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice giving a massive shout to their hockey team captain Asher as I waited for their conservation to die down for a while.

I tried to move my hand away from his in a second then he prevented me from doing so giving my hand a light gentle squeeze and showing him the video afterwards that he looked up to face his dad listening to what his dad had to say about thanksgiving at his house because it was just my mum, my sister and I every thanksgiving we would usually celebrate it on Friday calling it Fri-yay our version of it until we would go to our dad house that was a four hour away home to have it there.

"It's nice to meet you but son why don't you invite us over to our house for Thanksgiving?" asked his dad.

A couple of words were being exchanged between them beforehand we were discussing it saying I might bring my famous pineapple cake upside cake hoping this awkwardness would finally dissipate into the air and booking a taxi to come because not one of us was able to drive since he had a concussion, a sprained wrist and there was no car to drive us back to campus refusing to let him pay for it.

I wanted to pay for it myself being financially stable, winning this debate of who should pay for this time as it keeps on happening to us anywhere we go, there were multiple little arguments about this every time.
