Chapter Six

Serenity

When I wake up, I’m still very tired. I open my eyes and find myself in a bed. My head is on Silas’ chest, and he’s humming a song and running his fingers through my hair. It feels soothing, and I feel myself let out a small smile.

It scares me how safe I feel in this moment.

Could this be different though? Surely, a son of Lucifer would be difficult to kill.

How do I let someone in after being alone for so long?

I must have fallen asleep on his lap when I was crying because I don’t recall anything after that.

I move my head to look up at him, and he looks down at me and smiles softly.

With only a glance, he has already made my heart pound harder in my chest.

Fuck, my heart is already in trouble. I don’t know if I’m ready for this. I feel the pull towards this man, but my mind wants to get out and run despite knowing that running would be useless with this bond we have.

Why is something that could potentially be so good always be so scary to let yourself have?

“Did you get enough rest?” he asks me softly.

“I still feel really tired, but I’m also hungry,” I admit.

“Let me get you a snack. Why don’t you put on some comfy clothes, and we can relax and watch a movie,” he says before moving to get up. Reluctantly, I get up off of him.

“Do you even watch movies?” I ask curiously.

He chuckles. “Yes, I watch movies. Got to have something to do in my down time.”

“Oh,” I whisper, making him chuckle again before leaving the room.

I shake my head at myself and head to a door where I hope there is a washroom. When I open it, it turns out to be a massive closet; my mouth drops open just looking at it.

I decide to grab myself one of Silas’ t-shirts. He did tell me to get comfortable, after all. When I finally make my pick, I walk back out of the closet and towards another door.

When I open that door, there are different kinds of items that seem to form a collection. It looks like there’s stuff throughout the ages in this room. That is pretty cool. I will need to check this out later.

I need to find the washroom before I have to just squat in the corner of the room.

When I return to Silas’ room, Silas is putting a tray on the bed and turns to see me. He looks over in surprise at the room I just came from.

“Did you want a tour?” he asks, realizing he never gave me one of what he hopes to be my home.

“As great as that would be, I would settle for which door the washroom would be,” I say with an embarrassed laugh.

“Oh baby, I’m sorry. I should have told you where it was,” he says and points to the room I have been looking for.

I practically run into the room and shut the door.

My nerves are trying to take over at this point, but I try my best to not let fear get to me.

It’s a weird feeling to feel both safe and scared at the same time.

There is a hope inside of me that I haven’t felt in a long time.

When I finish using the washroom, I quickly wash my face and change into Silas’ shirt. I look at myself in the mirror for the first time in a long time.

There is a lightness to me that I have never seen before. The weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I feel as if I’m not carrying the weight of the world anymore.

There is a small smile on my face. I won’t say everything had changed, but I can already see the difference that a night of not being alone had made.

When I get back into the bedroom, Silas has the lights dimmed low and there is an assortment of snacks and drinks on the bed. A TV appeared at the end of the bed. I am in awe. I have always wanted a TV that appears out of nowhere.

“Wow,” I whisper while walking closer.

Silas is smiling and, when he turns to look at me, his smile drops and he swallows hard.

“Is it okay if I borrowed a shirt?” I ask nervously.

“Of course it’s okay, baby. You look good in my shirt,” he says as his voice cracks.

Now I get what that look was for. I’m obviously not the brightest when it comes to men. I usually can’t tell if someone is interested in me. It will be interesting trying to pick up on things I had never had time to think about before. From what I can tell, he’s turned on by me wearing his shirt.

It feels better knowing that he knows my past and won’t expect me to have sex right away, but it also feels good that he is attracted to me. Being his bride is what I want.

I just have to take this all one step at a time.

“I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I grabbed what I thought might be good. I hope you don’t have any allergies,” he says, gesturing to all the food on the bed.

“I’m not allergic to anything., but I probably won’t be able to eat all this,” I tell him.

“We don’t have to eat everything. I just want to relax and spend some time with my bride,” he says.

His words are sweet and make me want to tear up a little bit.

I sit down on the bed, and we pick a comedy to watch. The evening is everything I never knew I had wanted.

After we snacked, I cuddled into Silas’ arms. It didn’t take long to fall asleep after that.

We didn’t talk much, but I think Silas knew I needed the relaxation after having to explain to him about my past. I think he also needed the time to process everything. I’m sure that it was a lot to take in.

Tomorrow, I plan to ask more about his brothers, Hell, and his father. Who wouldn’t be curious? I need to know what this family is about and capable of. I also would like to know more about this bond and how it will affect me.

So many questions.

Silas

I barely slept at all last night.

I kept thinking about everything Serenity had told me. I tried hard to hide the anger I felt on her behalf.

When she falls asleep for the night, I wrap the blanket around her before leaving the room. I hate to leave her, but I need to see my father.

He’s sitting in the main common room like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

He gets up, pours me a glass of what he’s having, and hands it to me as I sit down. My body feels weighted down by my emotions.

“She told you,” he states.

I nod my head.

He lets out a long breath. “When I chose my daughters for my sons, it wasn’t an easy task.

When I found souls that would match my sons, they all came damaged.

I just knew my sons and daughters would match each other and be what each other need.

You guys will complete each other in ways that people only dream of up top. ”

“I know that, dad. I’m not upset that she’s my bride.

I’m upset about what she has been through.

She has been on the run for eleven years.

She hasn’t had safety and security in so long.

Her family was taken away from her and, by some twist of teenage rebellion, she survived.

I don’t understand who was after her family and why, and I feel like I will not rest until I know,” I tell him before taking a long drink.

“I do not know the how or why, but I have been trying to find out. The only thing I have figured out is that it had to have been a supernatural being doing these things to her and her family. Otherwise, I would know all the answers by now,” he says, looking troubled.

“She said she heard a voice telling her not to give up. That was you, wasn’t it?” I ask.

He nods his head.

“I matched your bride’s soul to you, but that soul has seen many lifetimes. This time, when her soul wanted to give up, I knew this was the last lifetime you would have a chance to form your bond. Her soul has been looking for you for centuries, but you were never quite ready for it.”

“How did you know I was now?” I ask.

“I saw the look of loneliness and boredom in you. I could tell you wanted someone to share your life with. Your brothers too. A few of them might not see it now, but all of my sons have been waiting to have that one person who will stand by their side, never judge them, and love them unconditionally. You guys just never knew it was an option because everyone you come into contact with is affected by your sin,” he tells me.

“How do I help her through this?” I ask with a sigh.

“You will figure it out. You will learn what she needs and wants. You just have to remember not to push her before she’s ready.”

I look at him in shock. “Of course I wouldn’t push her for that. We won’t be intimate until she’s ready. I don’t care how long it takes.”

“That’s a good answer, son,” he says with a nod.

“Go back to your bride. She’s safe in the family home. Nothing can touch her here, and we will have time to figure everything else out,” he says, shooing me out of the common room.

I hope it doesn’t take long to find the fucker who hurt my bride.

He’s going to regret causing her any kind of pain.
