Chapter Eleven #2

I didn’t know who she was until my father told me and, from what I can tell, he won’t tell anyone who the brides are.

The next morning at breakfast, I sit next to Serenity and look over at my father.

“When you were looking and picking brides for us, did anyone know or help you?” I ask him.

Everyone stills, and conversations stop, at my question.

“I think the only person who knew was my old friend, Bernael; he is my closest friend,” my dad says thoughtfully.

“Isn’t he one of the fallen angels?” Fredrick asks.

“Yes, of Darkness and Evil,” Serenity states.

Everyone looks at her in confusion. She looks at everyone and gives a little laugh.

“What? You leave me alone for days and expect that I wouldn’t read all the books you guys have here? The history of Hell, Heaven, and the fallen angels is all very interesting.”

“You read all those books?” Otis asks with wide eyes.

Serenity laughs and shakes her head before saying, “no, not all of them. I’m about half way through. I have had a lot of time on my hands.”

“Do you think you can summon him? Maybe we should see if he told anyone,” I tell my father.

“Or is the one behind it,” Serenity says.

“There is no way he would betray us. He was the one who helped us control our powers,” Lorenzo says, shaking his head.

Serenity looks at him directly. “I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t know him. I don’t want to offend anyone, but we are all sinners and have some form of evil in us; don’t you think betrayal would cross someone’s mind in the however many thousands of years your father and him have been around?”

“Serenity, you do have a point, but I can’t see my good friend betraying me,” our dad says.

“Then prove it,” she says, giving him a challenging look.

In the hundreds of years I have been around, I have never seen anyone challenge my father in the way Serenity is doing now. I can also see him clench his fists. He doesn’t like it, but he won’t harm her.

“Do you know how many beings dared to challenge me and won?” Lucifer asks casually. I can’t even see him as my father in this moment because he looks like the Lucifer that humans hear stories about.

“I’m guessing quite a lot, since you are very old,” she says with a smirk, and I can see all my brothers wince at her calling him old.

“BUT being that it is my life on the line, then I will challenge any person or being I see fit. I still have my mortality, after all,” she says, crossing her arms and leaning back into her chair.

They don’t break eye contact with one another. At one point, my father’s eyes go completely black. I look at my woman, and her eyes go a deep shade of red. My mouth drops open in shock. I look around at my brothers who are also looking shocked at what they see.

“Are her eyes fucking red?” Leopold asks loudly.

That seems to break my dad and Serenity from the trance they are in.

“It’s good know I have such a strong daughter,” my dad says with pride in his voice.

“You chose me for a reason,” Serenity says with a shrug.

“Why are you guys just acting like both of your eye colours didn’t just change?!” Lorenzo practically shouts.

“I was trying to get into her head, but she was blocking me somehow. The harder I tried, the bigger the block came,” my dad says, looking at her curiously.

“Well, we know that with my powers, I can read and get any information from anyone or any object just by touch, but it seems I can also block anyone from reading me or getting information out of me,” Serenity says thoughtfully.

“I felt you trying to get inside my head. It was like an intrusion. I just thought about how I didn’t want you in there, and you didn’t belong there, so I imagined pushing you out and building a wall so you couldn’t climb over, I suppose,” she tells him.

“Interesting,” he says in awe.

“The bond must already be formed for her power to already have grown this much,” Gareth says looking at Serenity with pride.

“I think you are right,” I whisper.

Serenity looks at me with wide eyes.

“So, then we just need to have the bonding ceremony?” she asks.

I nod my head.

“I think so,” I reply.

I look at my dad. “How can the bond form without many physical interactions in our relationship?” I ask.

“You mean you guys haven’t had sex?” Otis asks loudly, causing Serenity to blush and try to hide her face.

I turn to give him a piece of my mind, but our father speaks before I can say anything.

“The bond isn’t physical. I told all of you that already.

I didn’t want that for my daughters because some of them have gone through difficult times where touch isn’t easy for them.

The bond is formed from the strength of your relationship.

It’s based on trust, loyalty, and how deep the feelings are.

Each one of your bonds will form differently.

The bond between Silas and Serenity was never about physical intimacy.

Lust needed to find a way to connect with his bride without it, and it seems he has achieved that.

I told you anything based on your sin won’t work with your brides,” my dad explains.

I guess I never really thought about his explanation of how the bond would form. In the beginning, all I cared about was having someone that was for me alone who would be immune to my powers.

I guess I should pay more attention when my father speaks.
