“I mean, unless you think the book is more interesting...”
The Silent Patient fell from his fingers to the bed. He didn’t even save the page.
“You were saying?” he asked seriously. “Please, by all means, continue.”
Frankie laughed, but crawled higher, too.
He only moved long enough to help her get the one problem out of the way—his only piece of clothing.
At first, he didn’t watch her, just laid back and let her press soft kisses up the side and then down the underside of his shaft.
A hand covering his face, his breath hitched again and again until he groaned the sexiest sound because her tongue started accompanying those kisses.
She’d gotten better at this. Took the time to learn him. It wasn’t so hard to figure out. Neither was he.
The noises he made, how his eyes lowered to watch her, and his trembling lips parted for those words he praised her with and swore breathlessly the closer he came, when it started to feel so good, that’s how he taught her. Without even knowing it.
He just loved it regardless. Couldn’t get enough.
Nico’s hand, shaking just a bit, came to tangle in Frankie’s damp hair as she sucked the head of his cock into her mouth, tongue flicking, teasing, and tasting.
He never gave direction or guided her because he enjoyed it all.
From start to finish, and he loved watching her while she did it, which was the part she liked the most.
Nothing was hotter than that.
If he didn’t immediately get tired after she sucked him off, then she’d fuck him just because she found it that hot. It didn’t matter to her if he did get tired and sleep after. He always made up for as soon as he woke up.
“Yeah, fuck...who the hell am I to tell you what to do?” he asked then.
Frankie released him long enough to grin, and wink. “Just let me work.”
He did. Happily.
After she’d swallowed the taste of him down, while he panted into the heels of his palms through the remnants of his orgasm, she kissed a path up his quivering stomach the same way he always did for her.
She nudged at his hands with her nose, and he let her in to take the kiss she had waiting for him.
It was the only time she had the upper hand during a kiss between them.
When he was weak-kneed and spent because she’d just sucked him dry.
Like she won.
“Now that’s hot,” she whispered against his lips.
Nico just chuckled, still out of breath. “Where’s my fucking jacket?”
“Huh?”
“I had something else. Where’s my jacket?”
“You should sleep.”
“Not yet.”
She grabbed the stupid leather jacket and threw it on his stomach so he could find whatever was so important while she climbed off the bed.
Readjusting the t-shirt of his that she’d thrown on after her shower and feeling sticky and hot all over again between her legs, she turned back around to find what it was that he’d needed.
A black velvet box, apparently, opened for her to see a familiar ring.
“That’s the Dove ring.”
Still propped against pillows, with an arm slung carelessly across his forehead, Nico smiled.
“Does that mean something, babe? He didn’t tell me, he just turned around and got it out of a safe behind a picture and then handed it to me.
Practically the next second after I told him you were pregnant. ”
Frankie’s fingernails found her teeth, but she didn’t nibble. “Yeah, it was my grandmother’s. It got passed down to me through my mom’s inheritance. He buried her with her rings, so...”
Nico turned the ring box around, looking at the twenty carat, clear diamond set in smaller begets that made two wings. “I didn’t look at it last night. I was more concerned with the way he told me that was the only acceptable next step. I agreed.”
“I forgot about that ring,” she admitted.
“Do you want a different one?”
“No.”
His voice, sleepy then, brought her back from a place she had forgotten existed.
“Where did you go, Frankie?”
“That’s all that’s left of them, you know? Just a fucking ring and a pile of money that I can practically never spend. That’s it.”
“No, there’s you, too. And our baby. This is not it. If you want a different ring, just say so.”
“I can’t believe someday we’re going to have to tell our kids that we had to scream at each other for two hours just to get engaged. And then you gave me a ring after I sucked—”
“Yeah, don’t tell your dad that. And not the kids, either.”
She took the ring out, holding it between two fingers to twist it back and forth, admiring the design. Under the wings, the metal prongs meant to hold the wings almost looked like bird feet, and like they could really sting. “I was told it hurts to take it off.”
“Really?” Nico asked.
“Yeah, because it’s not supposed to.”
“I get to design the wedding band, right?” Nico asked her, grinning sleepily from the bed.
“To match?”
“Oh, I got ideas already.”
“You’re crazy.”
“I got a whole stack of ideas.”
She cocked her head sideways. “A stack?”
“One for every baby.”
“My finger is not that big.”
“Good thing you’ve got nine others.”
“We’re not having that many kids, either.”
Nico smirked, eyes closing. “Would you just put that ring on so people will stop calling you my fucking girlfriend?”
So, she did. On the verge of tears.
Happy ones, finally.
