13. Veronica #2

“I know, and thank you for the advice and all the words of wisdom.” I squeeze her hand.

“Anytime. Now, let me guess. This impromptu shopping trip is you trying to distract yourself from the twins a bit and clear your mind?”

“Yup, pretty much. Although that kind of backfired when I told Gabe I was thinking about going, and now he expects me to send him naughty pictures in sexy outfits.” I laugh and shake my head.

Emma suddenly gets that devilish grin that tells me she has some mischievous plan forming in her mind.

“What?”

“Did those boys leave you one of their credit cards?”

“They did… Why?”

“Well, if their card works anything like Grey’s, they’ll get a notification every time you buy something with it.” She’s grinning so wide right now that I’m surprised her cheeks don’t hurt. Hell, it even looks scary now.

“And what did you have in mind?” My own smirk comes into play.

“Let’s make them sweat a little with a different kind of shopping.” She sits herself properly in her seat and starts up the car before pulling out onto the street.

“Oh, you are bad!” I laugh.

“I know, but it’ll be fun.” She joins in on the giggles. “Plus, Wolf will be more than happy to see me come home with some fun things for us to play with later tonight.”

NOAH

“Fuck, that was incredible.” Gabe grins from beside me as we sit on the couch watching a replay of the Stanley Cup Finals.

“Tell me about it. I feel like I’m still high off that win.” I chuckle and pick up my beer from the side table.

Victory night was something we had all dreamed about for so long.

All year we played extremely well and knew we would make it far in the playoffs; it was like a gut feeling.

But that night, we played better than we ever had, and it showed.

It feels fucking amazing, and I hope we get to experience that feeling again.

Today Veronica messaged in our group chat early that she wouldn’t be coming over, which sucked if I’m being honest. We’ve gotten so used to having her here that when she’s not, we have no idea what to do with ourselves. Talk about being dependent and obsessed…

My phone suddenly vibrates in my short’s pocket, pulling my attention away from the screen. I drag it out and smile when a text notification with Veronica’s name fills my screen, or should I say Kitten since I changed it to that last week.

I know she was texting with Gabe earlier, thanks to him practically rubbing it in my face that she somewhat admitted missing him.

Was I a bit jealous? Sure, but seeing the goofy grin on his face made that unwanted feeling go away just as quickly.

Although I was still hoping she’d reach out to me too at some point.

Kitten

I hope you boys are behaving and keeping the place clean.

I scoff at her message and smile while typing out my reply.

Me

We always behave when it comes to you.

Kitten

HA! I could prove you wrong within seconds.

Me

Although now that I think of it, if we make the place a dump again, you won’t have a choice but to spend more time here to get it all cleaned up.

Kitten

Or I could just quit…

Me

Nah, I don’t think you would.

Me

I think you like us too much to quit.

I watch those three dots dance at the bottom of my screen for a minute or two before her answer finally comes in and a smile grows over my lips once more.

Kitten

And what if I did?

Me

Well, the feeling would be very, VERY mutual.

Me

We’d be lost here without you, Kitten.

Kitten

Good.

I set my phone down on the side table as Gabe gets up to get us two more beers.

When he gets back, I take a few gulps and refocus on the TV.

Five minutes later, a notification comes through, and I tilt my screen to read it with my beer bottle to my lips.

I instantly choke on my sip when I notice it’s a purchase alert on my credit card… at a lingerie store.

What the hell? Last I checked, Veronica still has my card. Maybe she lost it?

“You good?” Gabe eyes me curiously.

I clear my throat and hit my chest a few times while sitting up and setting down my beer. “Yeah.”

I quickly return to my text exchange with Veronica and shoot one off.

Me

Do you still have my credit card?

Her response comes in immediately.

Kitten

Um, I should. Let me check.

Kitten

Yup, still got it.

She follows that message with a picture of it in her wallet.

Hm, so my naughty little Kitten was out buying lingerie and probably used my card without realizing it. I wonder why she felt she needed lingerie and who she intends to wear it for.

Kitten

Why?

Me

No reason. Just curious.

Kitten

Oh, okay. Well, it’s still safe with me.

I try to forget about what I just witnessed as Gabe starts talking to me about the hat-trick Ford made during the game, but my mind keeps drifting back to Veronica as I picture her wearing whatever sexy outfit she just bought.

Suddenly, another notification comes through.

I quickly grab my phone, eyes bulging wide as I see this new purchase was made at a sex shop.

What the hell is she doing?! I try to control my breathing and stop my heart from racing as I tell myself it’s nothing, that she’s allowed to treat herself.

But when another one comes in for over five hundred dollars at a different sex shop, I find myself choking on my beer all over again.

“Jesus, what the hell is going on with you?” Gabe slaps my back a few times.

I take deep breaths, clearing my throat a few times until it’s safe to speak, and turn my phone over to him. “It seems our girl is going on a little shopping spree.”

His eyes narrow for a second as he reads each transaction, then widen just as quickly as he throws himself back against the couch and belly laughs.

“Oh God! That is epic! When she said she wanted to go shopping, I didn’t think it was that kind of shopping!

” He gasps for air, wiping his tears away.

“Fuck, now I wish I had offered to go with her. I wonder what she bought at that price.”

“Yeah, me too. But the better question is, why is she using my card? We paid her this week, right?”

“We did, but let her have fun. I told her to treat herself, and clearly that’s what she’s doing.

” He chuckles again. “And if you want my opinion, she’s doing it on purpose.

One slip up? Sure. But three in a row? Highly doubt it.

Vixen is anal with that shit. You see how much she pays attention to everything.

There’s no way she hasn’t noticed by now that she’s using the wrong card. ”

A smirk spreads on my lips when I realize he’s right. She is very attentive to those things usually, which means she’s trying to get a reaction out of me. I pull up our conversation once more and type out a text.

Me

Veronica…

The bubbles appear instantly after hitting send. She was expecting me to message and waiting in our chat.

Kitten

Yes?

Me

What are you playing at?

Kitten

What do you mean? I’m not doing anything.

Me

Mhm, sure.

Me

So, I see you’re doing a bit of shopping.

Kitten

How do you know? Oh, Gabe must have told you.

Me

Yup, that’s EXACTLY how I know. But I’m curious, what did you buy?

Kitten

Oh, you know, just some very useful things I was in deep need of.

Me

Mind sharing?

Kitten

Mmm, sorry, Casanova. That’s only for me to know.

Me

And me to find out?

Kitten

Who knows…

“Oh, she is definitely playing with you!” Gabe bursts with laughter once more. “This girl is going to be the death of us.”

“One hundred percent.”
