Chapter 18 Room Crasher
Jade slips from my grasp, deflecting the blades before morphing as he heads for the fairy who tried to attack me. Before Jade can come into contact with the female fairy, Zhier grabs him by the back of his neck in midair before striding to where I am standing.
"Are you harmed?" He hands me Jade when he poses the question.
I respond by shaking my head and obediently taking the emerald beast from him, which is still emitting a low warning growl to the lovely fairy who attempted to attack me.
When I met Zhier's eyes, I noticed that he was trying to tell me something. Over the course of the days that I have been here, he has always warned me that I should be more aggressive when someone tries to harm me. That way, I won't look like an easy picking for the others.
With a nod, I turn to address the fairy. "Who are you, and why are you trying to harm the Seelie Prince's future consort?"It's the last thing I want to say, but it seems I have no choice if I want to make it more credible and convey the impression of power and confidence.
When I mention my role to her, the fae girl looks like she is about to burst from anger.
"How dare you say such vulgar words for a human!
" She takes a few steps towards me, but pauses when she hears Jade's snarl.
"I am one of the high council's daughter, Fera Viore.
I am the appointed and chosen future queen of the seelie realm. "
Before turning to check on Zhier, who appears to be weary, before I look at her thick, frown-filled expression.
"Uhh...no offense, but I don't think that Zhier chose you.
"
"Indeed." To my surprise, Zhier is quick to agree.
"My mother made the decision. I never decided it.
In fact, I am strongly in disagreement with it. " He flatly says.
Geez, Zhier could have held back a little. He's seriously going to injure a young lady's heart at this point.
I lean a little closer to him. "You could have omitted the last part."
"What for?" Zhier whispers back. "And why are we whispering?"
In response to his question, I shrug.
"Prince, this is unacceptable!" Fera's yell brings our attention back to her. Despite her bluish complexion, her cheeks are getting darker from anger. "You can't have a human for your future queen."
"Why can't I?" Xhier crosses his arms stubbornly. "I am a prince, and I can do whatever I want."
I look at him. "Sometimes, you don't act like a seelie prince, but rather an unseelie one."
Zhier returns my gaze. "I assure you that I am seelie enough that I allow you to stand at my side." He crosses his arms and scoffs.
"Should I bow and be humble at your generous offer?"
"It would seem like you are finally learning the proper etiquette in addressing me.
But since I have gotten used to your barbaric personality, I would like to ask you to refrain from doing it as it might make me think that you are sick in the head.
It does not suit you. Anyway, where did you learn about etiquette? "
"Aside from human movies and common sense? Books." I smirk proudly as I boasted a little on my progress with my study. "Unlike you, I take the time to read and research for myself."
"Cute, but it seems like you have not found anything useful for your case."
"That's not true. I—"
"Hey, are you two purposely ignoring me?! I AM STILL HERE!" Fera stomps her foot and screams impatiently like a spoiled child.
I'm never a fan of kids, especially spoiled brats, which is probably the reason why I am able to give this entitled fairy lady a deadpan look.
"You're still here?" Zhier and I says at the same time, sharing a look while addressing her.
"Get lost already." Zhier blatantly says. Even though I am not a fan of Fera for trying to kill me, I still hit him lightly for addressing a lady in such a way.
Fera can only gawk at us in disbelief at the amount of disrespect that we have shown her. Her cheeks turns bluer, if that's even possible, before bursting out of my room in a haste. Just before she's fully out of our sight, she turns back and points a finger directly at me.
"This is not over, human! I won't lose.
I will get rid of you if it is the last thing I do!
" She yells something that I cannot hear because she's so far away.
But from the way she carried herself and how she walks away confidently, I can only assume that she said something arrogantly at me.
Either that or she was screaming human insults, which I have gotten accustomed to.
What an idiot she is. That fairy probably forgot that I am a human, and I don't have sensitive hearing like they do.
I turn to Zhier. "What did she say?"
"Blah, blah, and blah." I stare at Zhier openly because of this. He sighs. "Look, when that woman opens her mouth, that's all I ever hear, but just to be safe, keep Jade with you at all times." He says dismissively. I trust Zhier regarding my safety so much that I simply believe him.
"Wait, Zhier." I start to call him just before he leaves. "I have something to tell you. I found something from one of the books. Also, I have questions regarding mirrors and reflective surfaces."
"I'll visit you tomorrow. Right now, I need to head back in town."
I tilt my head to the side. "What for? Do you need to buy something?"
He shakes his head. "Some Unseelie miscreants were spotted earlier. We don't know what they plan, but it can't be something good."
"Aren't you judging them so easily? What if they are just out shopping in the Seelie market?"
"You would not think that way if it weren't for the fact that they were trying to cover their tracks and faces.
If they wish to buy something from the market, they can simply write their names in the registration and get a temporary pass.
" He pauses, looking at my face. "You're a smart girl.
I bet you can already think of why someone would try to hide their tracks. "
"They're probably doing something illegal." I say.
Zhier nods. "That's the reason I need to head out.
I want to reassure my citizens and, ideally, catch one of them so I can ask them questions about their plans.
" It is rare for me to see Zhier looking worried, so it probably means that there's something bigger in the background that he is not telling me.
I guess my question regarding the entity that I saw behind the mirror can wait.
"Zhier, before you leave, I would like to ask you one more thing."
"What is it?"
I point inside my room to indicate at the mess inside. "After hurricane Fera's visit, I can no longer use my bed and the other furnitures. Where the heck am I suppose to get some shuteye with this?!"
A short while later, I was transferred to another guest room. Thanks to Fera, I guess, I got a more spacious room with more spaces for books that I can study and for Jade to run around and play without disturbing me.
I waited long for Zhier to return, but it would seem like his work has caught up to him. I wonder if he has caught the Unseelie faes that he was talking about?
"Jade, if you break another pillow, I will not stop Serafina from confiscating your emerald snacks.
" I place the hair brush on the dresser while I address Jade.
It is a relief that the emerald beast is smart enough to understand me immediately that he quickly drops tulip cushion. "Come here, Jade. Let's go to bed—"
My balcony door suddenly burst open, cutting me off midsentence as a strong blast of wind enters my door. I hurriedly rush to close it before it messes up the rose curtains, and I'll be the one hearing Serafina's lecturing.
After closing the doors, I can't help but notice something strange. There doesn't seem to be any storm outside that can conjure that blast of air.
Since I live in the Seelie realm, I just shrug it off as one of the mysteries of this creepy castle. Who knows? Maybe random winds is just a natural occurrence here.
I turn to head for my bed when I suddenly feel a knife aimed at my throat. My eyes found Jade, I expected him to pounce at my attacker, but the darn mutt just stare at the stranger holding me captive from behind.
What is he doing!? I wonder.
Just as I had that thought, the person holding me captive begins to speak, and that's when I realized why Jade didn't made a move to attack.
"In the name of our beloved Prince Klovis Jjoirgen, we are to bring you with us."
