CHAPTER 2

MARKO

THURSDAY MORNING – NEEDING TO KNOCK

“ W e’ve got movement on Mathieson’s account!” I stated, bursting through Miki’s door without knocking.

Aw hell!

Miki and Eilidh were kissing again.

They couldn’t keep their hands off each other, and it wasn’t the first time I’d interrupted them. It seemed to be my fate these days.

Eilidh had been living with us for the last few months. You would have thought I’d have learned my lesson and remembered to knock by now. Obviously, I hadn’t.

At least kissing was all I’d walked in on. The last time was much worse; they were making out on top of the desk, and it was an image I really couldn’t get out of my head. I cringed at the thought; I wasn’t a voyeur, and I certainly didn’t want to see my big brother doing the dirty deed.

These two weren’t the only ones either. My sister Sonia and cousin Romi got married recently and my brother Ash and his new wife Gracie had only returned from their honeymoon a couple of weeks ago. This house was full of couples all getting it on and I was the only single one here. While I was happy for them, it was a bit annoying at times. Embarrassing too.

The other day I walked in on Romi with my sister Sonia in the games room. I would never look at our snooker table the same way again. Plus, I really wanted to purge my eyeballs out with the snooker cue after seeing that.

Seriously, these were not the sort of sights any brother wanted to see. Cringing at the thought, I shook my head and shivered with displeasure. God, I really needed to learn to knock.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, as Eilidh jumped off Miki’s lap and sat on the desk beside him.

Her face was flushed pink. Obviously as embarrassed as me.

“You were saying?” Miki asked, sounding pissed off at being disturbed, but I ignored it. It wouldn’t happen again. I definitely was going to work on knocking, but right now there were more important things to think about.

“The money was transferred from the account Mathieson had set up in the name of Jessica Adams to another account here in London. I hacked into the bank manager’s emails and there was one from a family lawyer based here in London, Fitzpatrick she was just my type. Very sexy!

What the hell had she to do with that slimeball Mathieson? Surely she wasn’t his business partner? Or a lover? Biting my lip, I studied her photo. She looked too young but who knew? Mathieson had swung both ways, and he liked his lovers young, so she could be. The thought sickened me. Why else would she be getting a large sum of money from the bastard, though? Maybe there was another explanation?

Narrowing my eyes, I stared at her picture.

Who are you, beautiful?

As I grabbed my backpack and the gear I’d need; I bit back a smile. Whoever she was and whatever her connection to Mathieson, I’d soon find out.

My heart sped up, but I put it down to adrenaline at the thought of closing in on another potential enemy, and not the fact that I would really like to get to know Miss Martin intimately. If she turned out to be an innocent party, I hoped that getting to know her would be a real pleasure for both of us, but if she turned out to be our enemy, she was in for a whole world of trouble because beauty or not, woman or not, I wouldn’t let her threaten the peace my family had just found.
