Chapter 37 Don't Resort to Violence
That night, Clara Bennett barely slept at all.
On one hand, she was worried about Ethan Young, and on the other, she was troubled by the "first love" issue. Plus, it was her first time sleeping on the couch, and she tossed and turned, unable to get comfortable until just before dawn.
But she hadn't been asleep for long when she was woken by some noise.
Opening her eyes, she saw Mason Reed already dressed and ready to go out, with Ethan packing his backpack and following him.
"Where are you two going?" Clara asked, startled.
Mason was dressed strangely, in all black with a baseball cap, and he was holding a retractable baton he usually used for home workouts.
A bad feeling crept into her heart.
"Are you going to fight?"
Mason looked at her but didn't say anything.
Clara grew anxious. It seemed he really was going to fight. Every time he got into a fight since they got married, it was related to her, and each time she was terrified, fearing he'd get into trouble and end up back in jail...
This time, she couldn't let him resort to violence again!
"Don't get involved in this," Mason said firmly. "Those bullies won't learn their lesson unless they get a taste of their own medicine!"
"Does it have to be violence to solve the problem?"
"What other way is there?" He looked at her, his gaze cold and his expression resolute. "If talking nicely worked, the world would be a much more peaceful place."
"Don't worry, I know how to handle myself. And this time, by standing up for Ethan in front of those bullies, they won't dare to bother him again. Ethan is my brother-in-law; I can't just stand by and watch him get bullied!"
Clara felt a warmth in her heart and gently held his hand, silent for a moment before looking up at him. "Don't be impulsive. I have a way to solve this."
"What?" He narrowed his eyes. "What way?"
Clara smiled and waved her phone in front of him.
"We shouldn't resort to violence; otherwise, the trouble will never end. My method will solve all the problems at once! But it means Ethan will have to put up with it one more time. Can you bear it?"
Mason hesitated for a moment, then put down the baton, followed Clara's advice, changed into regular clothes, and after breakfast, they both accompanied Ethan to school.
Clara had Ethan walk ahead while she and Mason followed at a distance.
Before they reached the school gate, they saw a few high school students with cigarettes in their mouths approaching Ethan.
They surrounded him, patting his shoulders and swinging their backpacks, wearing malicious grins.
Ethan trembled at the sight of them and was dragged to a secluded corner, too scared to make a sound.
Clara and Mason quickly followed and hid nearby.
The bullies started to attack Ethan, forming a circle around him as he crouched in the middle. Soon, his cries could be heard.
Clara endured the pain in her heart and didn't intervene. Instead, she found the best position to clearly record the scene with her phone!
When she had recorded enough, she exchanged a glance with Mason. He immediately rushed forward and knocked the high school students down with a few punches and kicks.
Ethan had a few more scratches on his face, but they weren't serious. Mason shielded him behind him, his fierce gaze sweeping over the faces of the bullies.
"You've got some nerve, Ethan. You... you brought help?" the leader, a chubby boy, said arrogantly. "Just wait! If you dare stay here, I'll call more people, and we'll see who gets the last laugh!"
"It's unlikely you'll be able to kill them," a soft voice interjected clearly. "But you should think about what will happen to you when your parents find out you've been bullying your classmates."
