Chapter 55 He Can Endure, But His Woman Shouldn't Have To
Mason Reed saw her looking a bit downcast and smiled as he brushed her long hair aside.
"What's wrong?"
Clara Bennett sighed softly and gave a bitter smile.
"For now, there's no good way to get back at them," she said quietly. "I don't want to make a big fuss about it, as it's not exactly honorable... People like them can do evil and then go on living their lives as if nothing happened, but I'm powerless to do anything to them."
"All I can do is pretend nothing happened and endure for now, until I'm strong enough to stand up to them. Then I'll settle the score!"
Mason looked at her and smiled gently.
Clara was not a weak woman who could be easily bullied.
Not only was she not weak, but she was also clear about her likes and dislikes, resilient and patient, and determined to seek revenge.
In critical moments, she could stay calm and protect herself, even having the resolve and courage to go down fighting.
She was practically his mirror image.
The corners of his mouth lifted high, and the more he thought about it, the prouder he felt. His woman should be like this!
After being betrayed, he had also endured, even changing his name and living in Harrington in hiding, all to one day take down Vincent Harrington and his group.
He could endure, but he didn't want his woman to suffer through the same ordeal.
"Honey, let me ask you something," he said with a light laugh. "If you had superpowers right now, how would you deal with the people who hurt you?"
"What?" Clara looked at him with wide eyes.
"We're just chatting, so let's let our imaginations run wild," he said, looking at her. "Imagine how you'd punish them."
Clara rolled her big eyes and gave a naive smile. "It's not really about punishment. I just hope they get what they deserve! That they suffer everything I went through, and then never appear in front of me again!"
Mason nodded and whispered in her ear with a smile, "As you wish."
"What did you say?"
"Nothing," he said, helping her lie down. "Are you tired? Get some rest. I'll go buy some millet porridge for you."
Clara fell asleep, and Mason quietly left the hospital room.
Outside, Jasper stood with a face full of apology and flattery.
He had also injured his leg and was hobbling on crutches, his head wrapped like a mummy. Chase Ye was beside him, supporting him. The two had been waiting at the door for a while.
Mason glared at him, his gaze piercing.
"Third Brother, I'm... I'm really sorry," Jasper said remorsefully. "But I swear, if I had any bad intentions toward Clara that night, may I be hit by a car as soon as I step outside!"
"You've already been hit by a car," Mason said coldly. "You're so lucky, it didn't kill you!"
Jasper paused, then chuckled awkwardly.
"Third Brother, that night I wanted to take Clara home, but I had to put on a show in front of those two beasts, right? Just in case..."
"No need to explain, I understand."
Mason kept a cold expression.
Vincent Harrington might send someone to attack him at any time. Harrington was no longer safe, and if some people with ulterior motives targeted Clara, he would be at a severe disadvantage.
So, he had to be cautious about everything. The fewer people who knew about his relationship with Clara, the better.
"Did you hear what she just told me?"
Jasper was taken aback, but Chase reacted quickly and immediately asked, "About how to punish Thomas Sun and Jason Ford?"
Mason nodded.
Chase couldn't help but laugh. "Third Brother, are you really going to do what she said?"
"Why not?" Mason said sharply, raising his voice. "If you don't do it, do you want me to handle it myself?"
"We'll do it, we'll definitely do it!" Jasper was eager to make amends. "Clara won't have to see those people again!"
Mason grunted in acknowledgment, hands clasped behind his back, and swaggered off to buy the millet porridge.
Chase looked at Jasper speechlessly.
"Do you think... Third Master can go back to Central City?"
"I'm not worried about that," Jasper said with a smile. "What I'm worried about is Clara's stubbornness. What will she do if she finds out one day that Third Master isn't Mason Reed?"
