Chapter 39 Abel
ABEL
I settle Mia, Hannah, and Liam in their bouncy chairs in the kitchen.
Perry and Buckle are still asleep, but I woke up early refreshed.
That doesn’t happen often. Three weeks of being parents and we’re all exhausted.
We have a rotation going and today is my day for diapers and feedings.
Three babies are still a lot in one go, even with three parents.
I tend to bring them with me to the kitchen when I’m making breakfast and everyone’s lunch.
I love adding my little personal touches to Perry’s and Buckle’s meals.
Both offer to help with cooking, but I love it so much I shoo them away.
That is, until Buckle reminded me he also enjoys cooking, so we make special dinners to spoil our Omega.
Perry doesn’t care much to cook and we’re happy to do it.
I flip our sausages, then turn to the babies. “So, what’s it like being on the outside?” I chuckle because I ask that every few days, knowing they won’t be able to answer for a while.
They just smile and make bubbles with their slobber. So gross and endearing at the same time. I wipe Mia’s mouth with a burp cloth.
We’re choosing to use they/them pronouns until our kids can tell us who they are. A few people, usually humans, scoff at the idea, but none of us care. Obviously we slip sometimes, no one’s perfect.
“Except for you little sweetie pies. You’re perfect.” I nibble on Hannah’s toes, making them giggle and flap their tiny arms.
Not too long ago, I would have been too scared to enjoy this or my mates. But not now. Now I get to enjoy life to the fullest thanks to severing the bond with Hawk Ridge.
None of our babies will be hawks, but that’s okay. As long as everyone is happy and healthy, that’s all that matters to me. I poke Liam’s tummy, then Mia’s, and Hannah’s, making them all erupt in a chorus of baby giggles.
“Ah, that’s the best sound to hear,” Perry says as he pulls me into his arms and presses a kiss to my lips.
We linger in the moment. I take in his mint breath, which tastes funny with my orange juice flavored mouth, but neither of us says anything.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d have any of this. I thought I’d be the unloved Beta forced to marry someone I don’t love for some kind of alliance.
I’m glad Fate had other plans.
