Chapter Nine

Deepa couldn't help but bask in her new found freedom. For the first time since being bitten, it finally felt like she had regained some control over her life.

She could sleep through the night, wake up in the morning, and walk around without her inner wolf howling to be close to a psycho. She didn't even feel the urge to transform. Returning to life as a regular human was finally starting to seem achievable.

Deepa scrolled through job listings on a phone that she borrowed from Ryan. It would be hard to score a decent job without any ID, but there were plenty of farm jobs that paid cash and looked willing to look the other way.

There was a knock at her door.

"Who is it?" Deepa called out.

"It's Luke," the man said softly. "Is it alright if I talk to you for a moment?"

"Is Axel with you?"

"No, it's just me."

Deepa huffed and tossed the phone on the bed, getting up to open the door.

Luke looked like he'd barely slept. There were dark circles under his eyes, his hair was a mess and his clothes were wrinkled.

"Can I help you?" Deepa asked.

"Can I come in?"

"I guess," she muttered, stepping aside.

Luke entered the room and sat down on the bed, letting out a sigh.

"What is it?" Deepa asked.

"It's Axel." He shook his head. "He hasn't been doing so well."

Deepa rolled her eyes. "And why should I care?"

"He's more unhinged than normal. If you could only talk with him-"

"He's a grown man, he can sort his own shit out."

"But you're his mate."

"No," Deepa snapped. "We're not mates. We’re two entirely different people who exist outside of each other. I'm not his property."

"But it's different for him, Deepa. He was born a werewolf. He can't just turn it off with some pills."

"That's his problem. It's not my fault that he's so fucked up."

"You're right." Luke nodded. "It's not. But if you could at least try and understand..."

"I already told you, I don't care.” Deepa clenched her fist. “I honestly just don't care. He's the one who brought this all on himself, he can deal with it."

Luke looked like he wanted to say more, but he closed his mouth, shoulders slumping in defeat. "Alright, I get it. I'm sorry for bothering you."

Deepa frowned as Luke got up and left her room, gently closing the door behind him.

Guilt gnawed at her stomach, but she quickly brushed it away. Axel could rot in hell as far as she cared. He was a pathetic loser who was probably just sulking because his feelings were hurt. She didn't owe him anything.

Deepa picked up the phone and returned to scrolling through jobs. She was leaving the mansion forever as soon as she got her shit sorted out.

Axel unleashed his bat on a thousand dollar microscope, sending the pieces crashing against the brick wall. He then turned his attention to an expensive computer monitor, smashing it with his bare fist.

He was furious, enraged and devastated.

His inner wolf was raging inside him, scratching and biting at his insides, demanding Deepa's attention, her focus, her love.

Bruno sat on an empty desk, enjoying a bag of potato chips as Axel unleashed his rage on the university lab. Several of the computers were reduced to small pieces and glass littered the floor. An overturned fridge had been ripped open and emptied, its contents splattered across the wall.

Axel hadn’t been ordered to destroy the lab, but it seemed like a good target. The less research that humanity could do against werewolves the better.

Reese was balls deep in a curvy blond college student, rocking his hips as she clung to his shoulders and groaned.

"Make me a wolf," she huffed. "I wanna howl at the moon."

"Of course, babe," Reese grinned. "I'll bite you right when I cum."

"Promise?" she giggled, her nails digging into his back.

"Promise."

"How about you two hurry the fuck up?" Axel snapped, picking up a chair and hurling it into an expensive machine.

"Calm your tits," huffed Reese, giving the woman a wink. "Can't rush fated mates."

Axel pulled off a panel and started ripping out wires with his bare hands, snapping several of them with his teeth.

"Come on," whined the girl. "Just do it now."

"Patience, babe," Reese muttered, his hips grinding into hers. "I want to feel you turn on my dick."

Axel tried to block out their moans by picking up a keyboard and smashing it against a desk, small pieces of plastic went flying across the room.

How? How could Deepa push him away so easily?

He didn't even like her. She was rude and constantly whining about how shit he was. But she was the only thing that he could think of, the only thing that could calm the raging beast inside him.

He would do anything, anything at all, just to have her look at him the way she used to, her brown eyes glinting, her lips swollen and pink from his kisses.

But instead of wanting his dick, she took that fucking medicine and blocked him out.

It hurt.

It was a stab in the heart, a knife twisted in his chest.

Axel let out a roar, punching a hole through a whiteboard, sending dry-erase markers flying across the room.

It was all because of his fucking brother.

The fucking bastard had been after Deepa from the start, the same way he had fucked with every other woman that had ever crossed Axel's path. Ryan was a vile manipulative piece of shit who didn't deserve to breathe.

Axel should have strangled him to death back when they were kids. Ryan had been a scrawny wimp, quiet and constantly crying for his mother. It was only once Nastya became his caretaker, that he finally grew some balls.

Deepa needed to understand that Axel was the one that needed her, not his fucking brother.

"Are you gonna help?" Axel snapped at Bruno.

"Nah," his cousin shrugged. "You got this."

The college student let out a cry as Reese sank his teeth into her shoulder. He thrust in deep as her body began to shake and convulse.

"Don't pull out," she whimpered as fur sprouted from her skin. "Please don't pull out."

"Wouldn't dream of it, babe," Reese purred, his hips bucking. "Just a few more seconds."

She cried out, her legs tightening around his waist, her nails digging into his skin as she shifted into a werewolf.

"Fuck," Reese moaned as his climax hit, rapidly pumping his hips as her pussy squeezed around his cock, milking him dry. "Fucking Heavenly."

The newly turned wolf pulled away from Reese, letting out a long howl as it dashed out of the room and down the hall.

"You're lucky that didn't rip your dick off," Bruno muttered.

"Oh, come on." Reese pulled his pants back up. "It was fun."

"Not if they turn around and bite your dick off."

"Hey, you should try it sometime," Reese smirked. "It feels awesome when their body changes for the first time around you."

"You know what would be more awesome?" Bruno replied. "Never having to worry about my dick being ripped off."

Reese chuckled. "Suit yourself. But don't get jealous when she comes back as my fated mate."

"So what? You can be stuck having hate sex for the rest of your life?"

"That's the good stuff."

Axel punched a hole through the wall, causing the two men to pause and glance at him.

"You alright man?" Reese asked.

"Don't talk to me," Axel growled, kicking over a stack of chairs and sending them crashing against the wall.

"Yeah, something is definitely wrong with him," Bruno muttered, crunching on another chip.

"Shut up!" Axel hissed.

He needed to talk to Deepa. He needed her to understand that they were meant to be together, no matter how much they might hate each other.

He didn't need her to love him, just accept him, to stop taking that shitty medicine and let him back in.

He wanted to hear her say his name again, feel her touch, taste her.

Axel growled, throwing a broken chair leg at a window. It cracked but didn't shatter, so he picked up a desk and heaved it into the glass, creating a spiderweb of cracks that ran down its length.

He would get through to her. He would make her understand that they belonged together.
