I pulled the baseball cap down low onto my head making sure that I wouldn’t be seen. I’d picked up a few pointers from Mason and Carmine about using the cover of darkness. My brothers had made art form out of it and I trusted them to teach me their shadowy ways.
The subject that I was trailing had been a predator for so long, that he had no idea what it felt like to be prey.
To be hunted.
Silently, I maneuvered through throngs of people on a Friday night, keeping my eyes trained on the figure up ahead.
He was a man who had used his position to abuse those weaker than him for entirely too long. His reign of terror was going to be over tonight.
As he turned the corner, I moved with him quickening my pace there was no way I was letting him get away tonight.
It had to be tonight.
Now or never.
The crowd thinned and no one was watching to enthralled in everything they had going on. Easing the knife out, I slid up behind him and yanked him into a deserted alley.
Surprise and shock morphed onto his face as I covered his mouth with my gloved hand and brought the blade up to his eyes.
"You’ll never touch another woman or child ever again, Pastor…no pretty little things will bring you to heaven in this lifetime.”
The knife slid through my woman’s tormentor like butter. My hand remained over his mouth watching as he tried to scream as I slid the knife into his stomach to the hit.
“Piece of fucking shit,” I hissed at the man who slid to the ground, the light in his eyes going out.
Looking around I gave the body a swift kick and then dug around in his back pocket for his wallet.
Tomorrow, he’d just be a blip on the radar.
A news report.
A robbery gone wrong.
But for the woman I loved, it would be a nightmare that had finally ended.
Ducking back out of the alley, I kept my head down and blended back into the shadows.
There was a baby shower that I needed to get to with my soon to be wife and in-laws. I couldn’t wait to kiss my woman and feel our baby kick in her stomach.
