CHAPTER 14

Kaya

Cipher seemed impressed with what I can do, and if I’m being honest, it gives me a sense of pride. I know I have skills, but being able to show off a bit, gives me a little ego boost. When we get upstairs the common room has calmed down. All of the women are sitting around together chatting.

“You girls should come. It will be a great time.” Lexi says to Sophia and Gretchen.

Sophia beams. “That does sound fun! I’ve never seen dancers live before.”

“Dancers? Are we going to a male strip show? Count me in.” I say as I approach the group.

Gretchen chuckles. “No. She’s talking about the auditions for the Iron Petal.”

“Oh yeah. Cipher was saying they still need a few more girls. I’ll come too.”

“Dancers for what?” A southern drawl interrupts.

Lexi glances up from her seat on the sofa at a smiling Jessica, who has just entered the space from the hallway. “The bar the club owns is looking for dancers.”

“Really?” Jessica asks, her voice curious. “Maybe I should audition. I used to dance at a club called Triggers. You remember, don’t ya Mav?”

Maverick lets out a scoff. “I should have left your ass there.”

I glance up at him. He shakes his head. His brows are pinched in annoyance as he turns and glares at Jessica. “If you’re staying around here, I’ll find you a job somewhere else.”

“Why not at this bar?” Jessica whines. “I’m a damn good dancer, plus I’ll make a lot more money dancing than doing anything else. It’s not like I have a college degree or anything.”

I raise a brow. “Do you have a problem with her dancing?”

“I have a problem with her working for the club. I don’t want her to have anything to do with it.” That was a good point. But what I’m really wondering is what in the hell happened to her only being here a few days? Now she’s trying to get a job?

Lexi laces her fingers and rests them on her knees. “If she has experience dancing, she may be just what we’re looking for.”

Maverick’s lip twitches, turning to a scowl before he faces Lexi. “Fine, but I want nothing to do with it.”

Lexi’s face lights up. “Perfect.” She turns to Jessica. “The auditions are Thursday afternoon. Have at least two songs ready. Do you need clothes? We can go out tomorrow to pick something up.

“That would be great! Thank you so much,” Jessica says, sounding entirely too perky. I am woman enough to admit that anything this chick says irritates me, so she may actually be being genuine, I just dislike her enough not to care.

Maverick takes my hand and starts pulling me toward the hallway when Ace speaks. “Riker, Maverick, need you two in my office.”

“Shit.” Mav mutters.

“I’m going to have to get going. I have another early day tomorrow.”

Maverick looks down at the floor and then to me. “I’m coming over.”

“Tonight?” I squeak.

“Yeah,” his deep voice rumbles and I suddenly can’t think of a single reason to deny him.

“Okay.” I place my hand on his cheek, brushing down his beard before leaning up to kiss him.

I know it will be confirmation to Sophia and Gretchen that I am in fact completely full of shit and actually do like this man, but I don’t care about that either.

His lips are too perfect not to kiss. He instantly thrusts his tongue into my mouth and grabs a handful of my hair, holding me to him.

He groans into my mouth causing my insides to quake from my stomach to my toes.

I close my eyes and enjoy every second, even though I know we have an audience.

My not caring is working overtime right now.

My traitorous best friends clap and hoot out loud.

I roll my eyes. He gives my ass a squeeze before quickly walking down the hall toward Ace’s office.

Now that all the women’s eyes are on me, my cheeks heat.

I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand and turn to the group.

“Anyway, I have an early morning tomorrow, so I’m going to go. ”

Sophia laughs. “Good luck with that.”

“Can you two keep it down though? I really don’t need a reminder that I’m not getting any through my own bedroom wall,” Gretchen says with a grin.

“Assholes,” I sing as I head to the door. “Goodnight, everyone.”

Before anyone can say a word, I make my way out to my car. I need to get home and make sure there is zero pregnancy test evidence for Maverick to find, because I am not ready for that tonight.
