Chapter 37

My contractions were coming pretty rapidly. I hit the button for the nurse as Ms. Mae tried her best to get me comfortable in the bed. I checked the machine, and my blood pressure was elevated. Law wasn’t picking up his phone so that’s how Ms. Mae ended up coming.

“I’m about to call the doctor and see what they want to do. It’s still too soon. Let me connect you to the monitor so I can report the right thing,” the nurse said. She attached the monitors to my stomach as I gripped my bed. I had a few more weeks before we were in the clear to deliver.

“Have you got in touch with Law?”

“He just texted me and said he was pulling up.”

“I swear I hate your son.”

“He’s trying, Summer.”

Law walked in before I could respond. He didn’t look like he was feeling well. He told me he was still having headaches. Now I wasn’t concerned with myself; I was worried about him.

“You okay?”

He put his hand up and flopped down on the sofa that he slept on. His shirt was wet around the collar and his eyes were huge. If I didn’t know better, I would think his ass was high off coke.

“Go check on him, I’ll be fine.”

“I’m good. I’m good. Let me take a shower, and I’ll feel better.”

The sound of Law hurling his insides in the bathroom made me sick.

Ms. Mae rushed into the bathroom. From what I could see, Law was on the bathroom floor.

I wanted to get up and help, but I couldn’t move.

A knock on the door and the nurse was back with a shot.

I was used to this shot; it always stopped my contraction, but made me sleepy as hell.

“How much longer do I have to go through this?”

“A few more weeks. We’re waiting on the baby’s lungs to develop a little more. We all want a healthy baby.”

She injected the shot and left out of the room. Law was now in the shower but I couldn’t hold my eyes open long enough to make sure he was okay.

“Go ahead and get some rest. I’ll stay with both of y’all tonight. You know, when I had him, his dad was in labor pains when I was. Law looks like he’s going through the same thing. She’s going to be a stubborn ass baby you know that right?”

“If she’s like her daddy, she’s going to be a handful.” I drifted off to sleep while Ms. Mae braided my hair back for me.

The next morning, Law was up and had breakfast sitting on the table for me. His light skin was now back to its regular color and his hazel eyes were back to their normal size. Law flashed me with a smile before opening up my food.

“That shit have you out. You ain’t heard shit.”

“I hate that shot. My baby hasn’t moved since she gave it to me.”

“Yes, she has. We had a whole conversation this morning while you were asleep.”

“That’s sweet and all but what the hell was wrong with you last night?”

“I don’t know. I ate something that made me sick as fuck.”

“Why didn’t you answer the phone? I called you several times. It was like the bitch was on do not disturb.”

“My phone didn’t ring.”

“Duh muthafucka; that’s what I’m telling you. It was going straight to voicemail and your voicemail is full.”

“My bad, okay. I’ll look at the phone and see what’s up with it.”

If it wasn’t for Trey, I swear I would lose my mind in here.

Law was starting to be so damn busy that he wasn’t around like I needed him to be.

LJ’s baby mama and I were getting close as well but I never mentioned to him that he wasn’t with LJ a few times; he said he was.

But it was cool. I was waiting on my time.

“I want to spend the day with you. I got someone bringing you some food and gifts. I wanted to buy you a nice push gift before the baby got here and everything. Since you’re so groggy, you’ll have to wait to see the gift.”

“Why are you being nice? Better yet, what is the gift because I’m sleepy and I don’t have time to play with you.”

“I bought you a new car. Since we will have a family, I bought you a new truck. They will deliver it here but I told them to take it to our house instead. The car seat and everything will be in there.”

“I didn’t need a truck, Law. My car was fine.”

“Let me do something nice.”

“I appreciate it but you just accumulating bills and shit. This ain’t a guilt gift is it?”

“Nah, I don’t buy guilt.”

“If that’s the case, thank you.”

Law did exactly what he said he was going to do. He didn’t leave for one second. He had me some food catered by a chef and I had a professional masseuse come in and giving me a full body massage and facial. I felt like a new woman by the end of the day.

“You’re so beautiful,” Law kissed the back of my neck as we cuddled in my small ass hotel bed.

“Thank you. Hopefully, our daughter comes out looking like me instead of you.”

“Nigga, I look better than you. You got a nigga fucked up.”

“She can have your eyes, and that’s it.”

Law nestled under me as I scrolled on my phone.

Pinkie had posted something on her club page about a party and she wanted the city to come out and support her.

What really caught my attention was the comments.

There was a bitch under the comments telling people not to support Pinkie because she broke up a happy home.

My curiosity took me right to her page, but it was private.

I added her because just like her, I was going through the wrath of Pinkie’s hoeish ways.
