Chapter 35 Bonnie

Bonnie

Meg shoves me up the driveway, but I can barely move my legs.

“Come on, girl. Pull out those lady testes, and man up.”

“Ew, and no. This is going to be a disaster. We should sit across the road on deck chairs and watch the explosion from safety.”

Last night, I listened as they explained what they had done and why. I didn’t trust myself to go inside their house, so I stayed on the porch, and we talked until the sun came up.

About everything.

I think they really mean it. They are going to stay. Hope is burning in my chest, and I can’t extinguish it. I don’t even want to.

“Daddy Sanderson isn’t going to kill your babies.”

“Do not call him that, Meg! We’ve had words about this.”

“But I love hearing you gag; it’s my favourite sound.”

“My favourite sound is you choking-”

“On cock?”

“MEG!” I shout.

She laughs and pushes harder, sending us up within sight of the porch, where I can see my four alphas and my mother with her plate of cookies.

You wouldn’t think multiple serial killers live in this house. It’s got a lawn courtesy of my mother’s badgering and tears. Big, lush bushes that give an illusion of privacy, and a single-story home with a bright red door.

The cookies are a nice touch, but my mother is the sweetest omega to ever walk the Earth, but, like my dad, she can be damn scary when riled.

And she’s on her way to being riled. I can tell because the cookies are her burnt-butter ones, the cookies she reserves for unwelcome guests.

“Oh, look, it’s our dildos.”

I choke and give Meg a sharp elbow in her ribs.

“Hello, dildos.”

“Meg!” My mother shakes her head and laughs, but the tension from whatever was growing disappears.

They ignore Meg, staring at me with an intensity that has me shifting my weight; all my father’s instructions have vanished. I’m not the killer he created, I’m just an omega, staring at my alphas and wondering how life could suddenly get so great.

“Bonnie,” Cyn says my name softly, and my mother jerks her head towards him in surprise. For a second, she’s startled, and then she smiles wide, and I know with that one word, my mother is sold, which means that any attempts my father might make to off my offending alphas will fail.

He would never risk her wrath.

Neither would I.

“Come on, Bonnie, bring your guests round the back, we’re having barbecue.”

“Ooh, what meat are we eating?” Meg purrs.

“The boring kind. If you want to eat spicy meat, go home and see your sweet and sexy little alpha.”

I cringe, wishing for a hole to open up, but it never does. My family needs to learn boundaries.

My mother is dressed in a skirt to her ankles, stockings, and shoes with pointy heels; she’s got a blouse that covers her up to her bond mark on her neck, and a face that’s tastefully made up.

She is a perfectly done-up omega and wouldn’t dare leave the house looking anything but less than her best. It’s a whole thing with her, but she does come across as somewhat prudish, so listening to these conversations is always a bit of a surprise for people.

My alphas seem to be taking it in their stride, though; the only person who looks surprised is Dakota, and it’s more happy surprise. The wonder on his face is something that I don’t like the looks of.

“Are you telling me that it’s not cutesy pick-up lines that will win our lovely Bonnie over, but crude and sexy words?” he purrs.

I bite my cheek, stopping myself from protesting as I follow them all around the side of the house.

Izzy sits up when she sees them, her eyes going wide before they narrow dangerously.

“Roscoe, get them.”

“Fuck!” I spit out before I jump into action, lunging to meet the giant mutt.

He stands as tall as I do, or taller, it’s hard to tell because he weighs a ton, and I always struggle to stay upright with him leaning on me like this, but I’ve stopped the initial charge, which allows Dad to see what’s happening.

When nothing happens, I peer past the fur and snapping teeth at Dad.

“Dad-”

The dog is ripped off me, out of my hands, and three alphas tie it up with leads, holding poor Roscoe in the middle, unable to lunge at anyone.

My dad lets out a booming laugh as I register the warmth at my back. I tilt my head and find Vale. He leans down and presses a kiss to my temple.

“Well done. First test passed.”

I don’t even know what to say to that. “DAD! You promised.”

“I promised I would not attempt to test them. The rest of our family, no such promises. Next time, you’ll think more carefully about the deals you make.”

“A test? That’s a full-grown monster!” Cyn snarls.

“It’s a puppy,” Izzy coos and kneels in front of the dog, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Points for not hurting him because, if you had, I would have had to stab your balls off.”

I feel Vale flinch.

“She’s a little bloodthirsty,” he mutters.

“You have no idea,” I whisper back. “Okay, so you know my Dad; Mitchel. My mother’s name is Yvonne. That’s Izzy with the dog.”

My other sister, a much quieter and angrier omega, steps out, glaring at us.

“That’s Meredith.”

My alphas murmur a hello.

“The dogs are Roscoe, Bentley, Planter, Tramp, and Vicious.”

“Vicious?” Vale asks with a grin I can feel.

“She’s the friendliest of the five.”

“How many siblings do you have?”

“Three, my brother will be here soon.”

Somehow, despite all our training, Cyn has circumnavigated the dogs training and now has him on his back, rolling around and making cute whimpering noises while his tail dusts the grass.

“Oh, look, he’s a bitch tamer,” Meg says with a wink.

I go bright red and curse her to the bowels of hell.

Dakota wanders over to stand beside my dad, helping him with the grill, while Rory takes up charming my mother.

They have divided, and they have conquered.

“I’m HOME!”

I whirl with a squeal and fly into Mark’s arms. He’s an alpha with a more relaxed vibe than I’ve ever felt before from any other alpha. He’s like a comfort blanket, and the omegas love him for it.

“I brought a friend.”

“Oh?”

The friend turns the corner and smiles wickedly, and I let out another squeal and fly towards him and into his embrace. He’s tall and lanky with long black hair and lots of tattoos.

I met Pix when I found him on the street and brought him home one day. He and my brother have been best friends ever since. And where my brother is a comfort blanket, Pix is like deep diving into something that gets your blood racing.

He’s also a male omega and practically family.

Right now, I don’t want him here or anywhere near my alphas.

“What are you doing here?” I whisper urgently to Pix.

He just scrapes his messy black hair out of his face and winks at me. He’s not conventionally handsome, but he’s striking, and his dark brown eyes that turn into honey in the light are full of intelligence and mischief.

“Pix, please, don’t-”

“This is Pix,” my brother says happily. “He met our Bonnie and followed her home and has been part of our family ever since.”

My alphas converge on them, sensing the threat. But just when I expect them to do something, Vale holds out his hand.

“So, glad to meet you.”

I’m stumped. Completely and utterly shocked because no alpha has been able to resist the lure of Pix’s scent. He’s potent in the most deadly of ways, and alphas immediately forget everything to be with him.

“You feel nothing?” My father asks.

“Were we supposed to?” Cyn asks in confusion. He leans in and sniffs Pix. “I can smell omega?”

My father blinks quickly and then lets out a bellowing laugh and hits a burger hard, sending flames high off the grill.

“Yay, we’re keeping them,” Meredith says as she glides past, looking supremely bored.

“Mere?” Meg purrs. “I’ve got some new books for you.”

Meredith stops and turns just her head. “Just out? One I’ve been hunting for?”

“Yes,” Meg half pulls it out of her handbag. “But you need to do your part.”

Meredith sighs heavily, turns, and stomps back to my alphas. She settles on Rory and punches him as hard as she can in the balls.

He howls.

“What the fuck, Meredith?” I scream.

“You hurt my sister, you dick bag. If you ever try anything like that again, I’ll turn your balls into p?té and feed you to an old folks’ home.”

Meg winces. “Old duck factory, not old folks’ home, geez, Mere, we’re not cannibals.”

“It’s not my fault your writing is terrible,” Meredith complains, breaking her performance to glower at Meg.

I don’t even know what to do right now.

“Now the rest of it,” Meg says. “Or no payment.”

“Seriously?” Mere growls. “You seriously need me to say all that?”

“Do you want your book or not?” Meg rubs her temples, rearranges her expression to fierce, and turns back, her hair flying out behind her as she faces off against my alphas, waiting for Mere to continue.

“Meg, what the fuck are you doing? You’re a menace,” I hiss.

Meredith slams her hands on her hips. “If you make her cry, if you harm one hair on her head, I will come slinking into your nightmares and exact my revenge.” Meredith says in a threatening voice, and then, to my utter surprise, she holds her hands up in claws and growls.

My face flames.

But so does hers.

This book must be really hard to get.

Meredith turns to Meg. “Give me that book.”

Meg hands it over and slaps her ass as she vanishes. “That was perfect, Mere.”

“Shut up, you heathen!” Meredith hisses.

“I…” I stare at them because I have no words. Nothing. What can I say? ‘I’m sorry my deranged family are enacting this unwarranted coup. Do you want to flee back to the wilderness and live as hermits?’

My dad sidles over and puts an arm over Rory’s shoulder. “Come on, boys, I have beer and sausages.”

“I want a sausage!” Meg pipes up.

“We all know you have cock envy, dear, but these are the boring kind.”

Meg falls dramatically onto the swing. “Low blow, Papa Sanderson.”

He chortles and takes my alphas with him while I sway. My mother stops beside me.

“I’m never going to forgive you lot for this. Your time will come.”

“Pish posh,” my mother says with a gleam of amusement in her eyes. “We needed to make sure they are worthy. It’s not everyday you lose one of your daughters.”

“You’re not losing me. You’re gaining them,” I say with my most evil grin. “Sucks to be you.”

“Oh?”

“They moved in across the road.”

My mother’s mouth falls open. She looks at them, all happy chatting with my dad. “You don’t say.”

“Gave up everything for me,” I say with a thick level of sulkiness.

“What’s wrong with that?”

“I can’t stay mad at them when they’ve passed all the tests and done what I asked.”

My mother laughs. “Well, they can’t be perfect.”

Oh, but they can.

I haven’t told my dad about them, and I probably won’t. And they don’t know about me yet, either.

But, yeah, they fit perfectly into this family and my life.

Pix leans up against me, watching them.

“RIP Alpha?”

I shake my head. “No. Not anymore.”

Pix does a mock gasp. “Are you off the market? The Omega Rejected? Have you found your true love?”

I elbow him, but the truth is. I’ve always been theirs.

But now…they are mine.
