Chapter 7 #3
“I’m sorry.” But his laughter at her had her glaring at him. “I truly am sorry, but I’d do it again if I wasn’t so sure it would kill me too.”
Sammy finally got up, but she was walking funny all the way to the bathroom.
When she closed the door, he could grin again without upsetting her, and he did so.
It made him feel like he’d just accomplished something profound to have his mate walking like she was sore just after having the most mind-blowing sex of his lifetime.
It was nearly noon when they were able to get up and get going.
He didn’t have any plans for today other than to get some furniture bought and get their house filled out.
Just as they were getting ready to leave the B&B, the owner asked them if they would need an unlock code to get back in tonight.
After telling her that they would, she gave them the four-digit code that would get them in after hours.
He didn’t know how long shopping was going to take, but he didn’t need to be locked out of his bed tonight.
Glad they were both armed with lists, his for the outside and hers for everywhere else that they’d been adding to over the last few weeks, they were finally on their way.
There was so much to purchase that they knew that they had to make several trips to the truck he brought just for this occasion.
Then he remembered the gift that his mother had made for Sammy. He handed it to her then.
“This is a lovely bag. I’m going to use it today.” He told her what it could do. “What do you mean it can hold a car and never be heavier than it is right now?”
“It’s magical. It’ll never stretch out, either she told me.
So when we’re shopping today, when we buy something, you can put it in that bag, and we’ll be able to have it when we get to the house.
And to get anything out of it, all you have to do is think about what you want while your hand is inside of it, and it’ll fill your hand.
” She put his and her cell phone in the bag and lifted it up.
“It’s not much, but I’m betting by the end of the day, you’re going to be glad for the bag.
We can put linens and things in it to have when we get there.
Also, before I forget, I’ve ordered a mattress and box spring for our bed.
It has to be longer to accommodate my height and weight. ”
“I think it will be helpful for a lot of things that we do today.” He nodded. “As for the mattress, I’ll mark it off my list that it’s done. I’m assuming that we’re having everything larger than the opening of this bag delivered?”
“Yes, that’s the plan. And if we have to pay extra to have it delivered tomorrow, that’s fine with me too.
Before I forget, my condo is ready for your dad to stay there.
I’ve heard that he’s being released in a couple of days.
” She said that’s what she heard as well and asked about her mother.
“She’s still in jail. They can hold her until the circuit judge comes through in a few days. ”
“The longer she’s in jail, the better I like it.
I’ve been meaning to ask, how does this affect her parole?
Will this be something that sends her back to prison?
” He said he’d not thought of that, but would have someone look into it for them.
“I was just wondering. When I was talking to Dad, he told me about their parole officer telling them that they had to have a residence as well as a job before he saw them the next time. I think I remember him telling me that his appointment with them is in less than a month. It wouldn’t bother me at all if she were to end up in prison again.
She’s no one I want to have around messing with my life. ”
“I don’t blame you at all.” They were at the shopping center where there were several places they could purchase what they needed.
Furniture wasn’t anything that he enjoyed shopping for but spending the entire day with Sammy was something that he was looking forward to.
“Okay, we’re here. Which room did you want to start with?
I’m assuming that we should start someplace and buy that one room at a time so that we’re not all over the place buying things. ”
“I love that plan. Lets start with the living room. Since we can sleep on the mattress on the floor for our room, it’ll be the last place we go to before the end of the day.
That way we’re not rushed into getting something that we don’t really like but was there.
” He told her that was also a good plan.
“I have them on occasion. All right, let’s get started. ”
Most of their time was spent sitting on sofas and chairs.
They had found one set that they both liked but the pattern on it was too much.
And since they couldn’t have it redone, they decided to skip it.
They’d not like it any better in the house than they did here so there was no point in getting it.
He thought that the pattern was more suited to a hotel lobby than a house but that was just him.
As they shopped, they also looked for little things that appealed to them.
Like Sammy found a set of lamps that she really liked, and they bought them.
Since they didn’t find anything else at the store, she put them in the bag.
They were both so amazed at the way they fit and were nicely packed away, they started finding other things that they could put into the bag to save them some trouble of having it delivered.
He couldn’t wait to see what they put in there next.
It was nearly two when they decided to stop for lunch.
It was late in the afternoon which made it nice because nothing was very busy.
They didn’t linger long afterwards but got to work right away.
He never thought he’d have this much fun shopping for stuff for their first and hopefully forever home.
By the end of the day, they not only had the living room finished up, but the dining room and two of the bedrooms as well.
Their bedroom had been finished first, having found something that they both loved in the second store and the company didn’t mind selling them an extra dresser for their room either.
Of course, with enough money to make things happen, it was nice to be able to say that.
He didn’t know what they’d do if they’d not sold them an extra one but to keep on shopping, he supposed.
By the time the stores were closing up, they were more than thankful for the bag that his mom had given Sammy.
Not only did they have towels in it, but all the linens that they needed as well.
Even a few kitchen items were added in—such as a tea maker as well as a coffee machine for hot tea—they were thrilled when the bag never got any heavier than a few ounces.
They’d even tried out the finding thing magic to see if it really did work.
He didn’t know why he questioned his mother’s magic, but it was fun to see the joy on Sammy’s face when she pulled out the lamp that she’d gotten for the living room.
Heading home, they got some dinner, and this time lingered a bit at the restaurant.
They were both exhausted and yet still in a good mood for what they’d been doing all day.
By the time they were at the B&B again, it was late enough that they had to use their key code to get in.
He was never so grateful for being in a small town than he was tonight.
There was the trust that you never would get in a larger city.
