Iknow what the hype about Haitian men is now.

Yes, I will absolutely elaborate further.

I will only be addressed as Cherie from now on. Take me to Gona?ves, Port-Au-Prince, or Les Cayes right the fuck now!

After that whole situation with Big A ended, I spent almost a week in Fiji with Buck and Paige. What I thought was going to be my reintroduction to the streets turned out to be my retirement. Since that week, I haven’t spoken to anyone except them.

I’ve completely cut everyone else off, and only then did I start to feel like my life was calmer. Had I known that I would find this type of peace, I would have cut them off sooner.

Some of them still reached out from time to time.

But for the most part, they caught the hint, and over time their messages have slowed to a complete stop.

I’ve always had men around at my disposal, so to be free of all their asses felt amazing.

Especially when I saw Psycho at my friend’s (his cousin's) birthday party, and he asked me if I missed him.

I told him no. Then he told me to come into the bathroom so he could change my mind.

When I didn’t go, in my mind it solidified the fact that I was just as over niggas as I thought. But after last night, it was clear to me what the real issue was. I was bored as usual, and it was time to move on to something new. The current roster had exhausted its time.

Last night, I went to a food-and-wine tasting event. It was supposed to end with me being stuffed, drunk, and going to bed. I was two of the three, but it was definitely not because of the event.

I pulled up to the event, which was in the convention center at a hotel.

Outside was swarming with the who’s who of Chicago.

Cameras were flashing, there were expensive cars a mile long, valets working overtime, and people exchanging pleasantries on the steps.

I didn’t want to go, but my obligations had my hands tied.

Normally, Tyra would be my default plus one, but she’s away on business. So, I opted to come alone instead.

I stepped out of the truck, and all the media personnel instantly gravitated toward me.

I smiled, answered a couple of questions, and then continued into the building.

I saw my receptionist and invited her to sit at the table with me.

I was just grateful to have someone there that I actually wanted to speak to.

The night went fairly well. My opening speech went off without a hitch.

The only downside was that most of the food was subpar, and the wines they were passing out were all bitter.

I spent the majority of the night regretting accepting the invitation.

In my head, I would much rather be in bed rewatching episodes of Girlfriends.

That was, until my night suddenly got more interesting.

During the mixer, we all stood around and conversed.

Then I felt a cold hand touch my elbow. I turned to see who it was, and it was a man whom I’ll call Zoe.

He was a wealthy entrepreneur and gym owner.

He was handsome too. He reminded me so much of a corporate Dave East. He was handsome, light-skinned, not riddled with tattoos, but their features were very similar in my opinion.

I met him last year at one of his business events.

We exchanged numbers and went out on a couple of dates.

Normally, I don’t have horror stories about the men I deal with and other women.

Not only do I not date men who are attached to someone, but I’m so private about my encounters that only the two of us know.

I wish the same could be said for Zoe. Last year, he almost managed to throw me in the middle of his circus.

The last date we had, something was very off. When he picked me up, a woman called his phone from the time I got into his vehicle until she came to the restaurant to throw a tire iron through his window.

He had the wildest story; he said that she was obsessed with him, she wouldn’t leave him alone and had attempted to put voodoo on him.

He even told me to search the Chicago clerk of courts and that he had a pending restraining order out on her.

I didn’t even bother to verify because it was a shit show, and I wanted no parts of it.

His explanation made it even worse. If she did all that to him, I could only imagine the hell she’d cause me. The entire time he was trying to soothe me over, I was texting Tyra and telling her to come and get me.

By the time the server came and said that someone was outside vandalizing his truck, my friend was already en route. When he went outside to confront her, I left out through the back door. I blocked his number and went on with my life.

Now here he was standing in front of me in the flesh.

“Hey, Bel (beautiful).” He said as he smiled down at me.

“Hi, Zoe. Glad to see you’re not howling at the moon.” I joked and took a sip of the bitter red wine.

He threw his head back and laughed.

“Nah, I’m good. You still mad at me?” He asked.

“I was never mad. I just didn’t need that headache…. Still don’t.” I corrected.

“You never let me apologize for that either. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to put you in the middle of my shit.”

I shrugged. It was water under the bridge for me.

“Thank you. I appreciate your apology, but it’s okay.”

“That’s not my apology, Cherie. You need to let me properly apologize.” He corrected me.

I chuckled and shifted my weight from one foot to the other. He had the charm of a leprechaun, and it reminded me why he and I meshed so well. He was a smooth talker and quick on his feet. All that smooth talking is probably what turned his ex-girlfriend into roadside assistance.

“If you’ll excuse me, I need to use the restroom,” I said as I gave my drink to one of the servers to discard.

I turned and walked through the crowd so that I could find the nearest restroom. I saw a single stall, knocked on it, and then opened it really quickly.

What I didn’t expect was for Zoe to be behind me and gently push me inside.

Startled by the gesture, he scared the hell out of me, and I hit his chest.

“What the hell are you doing in here, Zoe?” I questioned in a harsh whisper.

He laughed.

“I missed you.” He said as he backed me up to the sink and gripped my waist. “I didn’t want to pop up on you when I already knew how you felt about the situation, but that didn’t make me miss you less. I missed seeing your pretty ass face every morning.”

He was referring to our daily FaceTime calls. He called me every morning on his way to his business, which was an hour before I had to be at the office. So, we talked for the hour that it took me to get ready to leave the house.

“You had way too much going on. Now, can you let me go so I can use the restroom?” I asked. He came closer, pressing his center against mine. My breath hitched as I felt the rise of his erection against my stomach.

All of a sudden, I was breathing a little faster, and the air in the tiny restroom seemed to become more charged.

“That’s done, Cherie. That girl moved. Can we pick up where we left off?” He asked.

I pushed myself from his embrace and took a couple of steps away from him. The way his eyes followed me as he waited for a response was dangerous.

He closed the space between us once again and then grabbed my waist once more. I was wearing a black dress with one sleeve. He peppered kisses down my exposed shoulder and then ran his tongue up my neck before sucking on it gently.

“Hmm, can we?” He asked.

“Zoe…” I groaned as he licked and sucked on my skin.

I let out a moan despite myself, my eyes closed, and I cupped the back of his head.

I wonder if picking up where we left off meant that he was going to make good on his promise to have me bent over the balcony. Because had it not been for his ex’s interruption, that’s exactly what would have happened. The time may not have been right at that moment, but maybe the time is now.

He pulled my dress up around my waist and cupped my ass. I moaned as his hands looped in my panties and pulled them down. I stepped out of them absentmindedly. He came back up to me and teased my clit with his finger.

“Shit.” I sucked in a sharp breath; my head fell back, and my eyes closed as he explored my body.

Then a knock came at the door, making my eyes shoot open and the realization of where we were come back all at once.

I winced and then cleared my throat to shout. “Someone’s in here; I’ll be a while,” I called out in hopes they’d go away so I didn’t have them try to come in when I left.

“Relax.” He said, seeing the pure terror on my face.

I couldn’t.

“You just go out first, and I’ll stay for a while and go out in a minute.” He said it like it was that simple.

I nodded, fixed my clothing, and then took a couple of steps forward. The feeling of my juices slick against my thigh caused me to turn around.

“Zoe, give me my panties,” I whispered.

“Come get them back from me later. I’m staying here. I’m on the 15th floor. Room 1562.” He said as he casually stuffed them into his pocket and closed the space between us.

I sighed and opened the door ever so slightly and then peeked out. Luckily, the coast was clear, and I hurried to go back to the floor. I heard the door lock behind me, and I exhaled.

I passed a group of my colleagues and gave a polite nod as I continued toward my assigned table.

One of them stepped out and blocked my tunnel vision. “I’ve been looking for you all night. I wanted to introduce you to the new board members.” He said.

I inwardly groaned as I spent the next hour and a half standing amongst people, talking about work while being off the clock, in addition to being sticky with no panties on.

As the hours on the clock rolled down, the event started to clear out. What started as a sea of people quickly dwindled to a few. I saw the exact moment when Zoe left about thirty minutes before. He gave me a knowing glance as he pressed the button to wait for the elevator.
