Eleven #3
He lays two more slaps on my ass before leaning over and biting my shoulder. The bite does it. I come, screaming his name. I feel Zac jerk inside me. I feel his come spurting out, filling the condom. He roars my name out so loud I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole building heard it.
My lifeless body collapses on the bed. I couldn’t move if I wanted to. I barely register Zac untying the rope and rubbing my wrists before pulling the blankets back up over me. I’m so tired, that I don’t fight it when I hear Zac whisper into my ear, “Go to sleep, baby. We always have tomorrow.”
I look up at him. “Promise?”
“I fucking swear it,” he says, kissing me on the forehead, then my nose, then my lips.
I’m woken by the soundtrack of Rocky, which I’ve come to know as Bray’s ringtone.
Grumbling, I make half-conscious demands.
“Turn it off or I’ll break it.” Slapping my hand across the bed, in an attempt to make the sound stop, my hand meets a solid wall of muscle. I hear Zac’s groan as he rolls over.
“What? There better be a good fucking reason for you to be calling this fucking early.” There’s a short silence as he listens to Bray on the other end of the phone, and then Zac’s getting up out of bed. “Fuck, okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
Rolling onto my back, I open one eye to see Zac throw his phone down on the bed he just got out of.
He walks around to my side. Leaning down, he kisses my forehead and whispers, “I have to go handle something. Go back to sleep. I’ll be back before you know it.
” Nodding my head, I close my eyes, letting sleep take me over.
The next time I wake, it’s to my own phone blasting out. I really need to remember to turn these phones off when I’m sleeping. Seeing that it’s my boss calling, I answer, trying not to sound like I’m asleep.
“Hello, this is Alyssa,” I say in the most professional tone I can muster while also covering a yawn.
“Hello, Alyssa. It’s Nicki. Thank goodness.
You’re the first nurse to answer my call this morning; we’re short staffed.
Five nurses have called in sick. If you can make it here within the next hour and a half, there is a twelve-hour overtime shift with your name on it.
” Nicki doesn’t take a single breath as she rushes out the request.
I’m tempted to say no, to choose to stay in this bed, this comfy, warm bed that smells like Zac, over going to work in the cold and depressing hospital. Then I remember how much extra money I could make with twelve hours at overtime rates and my decision is made.
“I’ll be there, Nicki.”
“Thanks, see you soon.” She doesn’t give me the chance to say goodbye as she disconnects the call.
Jumping out of bed, I order an Uber and rush through getting dressed.
I’ll shower once I’m home and can get into my scrubs.
It’s not until I’m sitting in the Uber that I get a chance to send Zac a message to let him know I’m going into work.
Alyssa: Hi, I just wanted to let you know I’ve been called into work, so had to leave your comfy bed, as much as I’d rather stay in it all day. Xoxo
I debate the xoxo added to the end of the text but decide to just send it.
If he doesn’t like it, too bad. I don’t have long to dwell on how he will take the xoxo because my phone blares out “Stuck Like Glue.” Groaning at the song, albeit with an enormous smile on my face, I peek up to see the Uber driver looking at me through the rear-view mirror.
I silently apologise before answering the call.
“Hel—”
I don’t even get the full hello out before Zac is interrupting my greeting. “Sunshine, where are you?”
“Well, hello to you too, babe. You know most people start a conversation with a greeting like hello, howdy… I’d even take a g’day, mate,” I say in a saccharine sweet voice.
“Hello, beautiful, now tell me, where are you?”
He sounds annoyed but I have no clue what I’ve done to annoy him. Even an annoyed Zac is a hot Zac. Seeing how far I can push him, I say, “Well, at this very second, I’m in an Uber on my way back to my apartment.”
“Take this turn, John. It’s quicker,” I say to the driver, pointing to my left. He swerves the car left at the last minute, resulting in the car behind us blaring their horn.
This does not go unnoticed by Zac. “Why can I hear tires screeching and horns blaring? Please tell me you’re okay, sunshine. Actually, just send me this Uber driver’s details. I might need to have a word with him about how he should drive with such precious cargo.”
He sounds so serious I have to laugh, which doesn’t ease his distress. “You might think I’m joking, but I assure you I am not.”
“Oh, I have no doubt you’re not joking, but I also know I have no intentions of doing what you just requested either.
I’m fine, and John here is getting me home as quickly as he safely can.
I have one hour and fifteen minutes to get to work, so as much as I’d love to sit around and chat all day, I really have to go.
I’m just pulling into my townhouse now. Bye, Zac. I’ll talk to you later.”
I hang up without letting him add anything else. Giving John a thanks and a wave, I’m out the door and running towards my townhouse.
