Chapter 42 Carter
Icouldn’t sleep that night. I may have dozed off for a moment, but several times during the night, I would wake up, next to Tiffany’s warm body, and inhale deeply, thinking that it could very well be the last time I had a chance to cuddle with my cow.
I hardly wanted to sleep. I just wanted to enjoy her.
How she felt in my arms, her even breathing, the way she sought me out in bed, it was spell binding.
When my alarm went off, I silenced it, already awake. I gently roused Tiffany too.
I was surprised, for a moment, that she could fall asleep so easily, when there was so much at stake.
Then I remembered the dozens of messy orgasms she had in the prairie and the handful more when we showered.
We’d talked about easy things, flirted, and fell into each other again and again for the eight or nine hours before she finally collapsed on the mattress.
We’d made up for the time we lost when I hid from her.
Or maybe we’d prepared for the fact that she might leave me forever by the end of that night.
“Tiff, come. It’s time.”
She blinked, exhausted, and slowly pushed herself up, rubbing her eyes. “Time…?”
“For you to do whatever you want to do,” I said, trying not to think too hard about it.
I got up and gave her some time to fully wake up, go through her morning routine, and wake up.
As she did, I fetched a white jumpsuit, the same as the ones worn by my farmhands and security.
This one had been tailored to her specific size.
I placed it folded on the bed, along with the key card she had stolen from me.
Tiffany sat up and looked at the jumpsuit and the key card with mild disbelief, before lifting her gaze to mine.
“You’re really going to help me escape?”
“If that’s what you want,” I agreed.
My heart hurt at the thought, but I held my poker face. Tiffany opened her mouth, then closed it without a word. She knew I didn’t want her to tell me. Her actions would speak for her and I’d know when it was time. I’d be ready no matter what she chose.
“Remember what we talked about?” I asked as she dressed in the jumpsuit.
“I-I do.”
“Good.”
There was nothing more to say. Not until I knew what her decision was. We walked through the facility to the Ranch. At the door, I stopped. This was where we’d say goodbye, perhaps forever.
“Carter…” She paused at the door.
“Tiffany.”
“I-I just want to say-”
I put my finger to her lips, then pulled her close. I kissed her slowly, my arms wrapped around her.
We kissed for a long time, her tongue slicking across mine, my moans rolling into her mouth. Hunger, passion, and more built between us. When we finally stopped, we were both breathless.
“We’ve said everything we need to right now,” I said in the wake of the kiss.
She wiped a tear from her cheek and walked through the door. I turned back to my room, went to my desk and pressed a button there.
“Susan, It’s time.”
“Yes, sir.”
Fifteen minutes later, she walked into my room, wearing a black jumpsuit and carrying two long, hard-shell briefcases, which she placed on my bed. She met my gaze as I finished adjusting my shirt.
I nodded once. “Are you ready for this, Susan?”
“Ready? I’ve been waiting since we captured those two,” she said, opening one case and pulling out the bolt-action rifle.
“Don’t forget… The last shot is mine,” I said darkly.
“Of course, sir.”
“Let’s go, we need the high ground.”
