Chapter 16

Astor

It takeseverything I have not to rip the dress off this woman and bury myself between her legs. I’m hardly able to control myself as it is, without being in such close proximity.

If seeing her across the room dominated me, her slap undid me. I’m trembling from the inside out, wanting to fuck her raw, in every humanly way possible, until we are both unable to move.

I want to eat her. To devour every inch of her body.

I want to drink her. Every drop.

I want to come inside her, claim her. Listen to her scream my name over and over and over.

Something about Sabine Hart undoes me, makes me feel possessive and insanely protective, activating the most basic human desire to control and keep what’s mine. In her case, what I want to be mine.

Mine.

And therein lies the problem, doesn’t it? Because people like me can’t have a relationship. In my line of work, women are a liability. Women become targets for my enemies. Love is, quite literally, the antithesis of what I do. The Achilles heel.

But damn it all to hell if Sabine isn’t the most intoxicating creature I have ever been in the presence of.

Standing inches from her face, I drown in her eyes as they pull me like the ocean, an endless depth of fire and ice. Of pain and wanting. Of my life, or my death.

Her pulse flies under my fingertips. Her cheeks are flushed, her breaths short and ragged.

Mine are too.

I have never felt such a craving before her. In the endless desert that has become my life, Sabine Hart is a sudden mirage of sustenance.

What is this feeling? All I know is that I don’t want to let it go—which is the other problem. I have made a deal with the devil. Her body for my wife’s. No matter which way I spin it, Sabine’s presence in my life is temporary.

So, maybe ... maybe for one night—for one night—I can get whatever the hell is happening inside me out of my system. I can screw her mindlessly and then walk away.

That’s all I need. Just one night.

But—no. No, no, no, Astor.

No.

Bad things happen when you take a woman for just one night.
