Chapter Ten
Della stepped back and handed Turbo the switch blade. “Thanks.” She then giggled and went back over to Snake.
Zapper stared at her in shock. “You fooled me.”
Nodding, she looped her arm through Snake’s larger one then turned to face Zapper. “I’ve never used a knife before except to cut lemons.”
He looked angry as he tried to stand from the chair. He growled and lunged forward.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Lucifer raised his weapon and pushed the button.
A wire shot out and hit the man who had seemingly lost any good sense he had.
ZzzzAAAAPPP
Zapper’s body jolted as if he had a full on seizure happening. Screaming, with an odd high-pitched sound, he dropped to the floor. His hands rose up and curled into arthritic like fists as his body shuddered.
Everyone there stared down at the now unconscious gang member.
“Damn,” Turbo muttered.
They all looked up at Lucifer.
Shrugging, he turned and handed Dax the taser. “I took that off him earlier in the woods. So that explains his gang name anyway. Zapper. We wanted to use one of his own weapons on him. So, I thought that was as good as any.
The men in the room all laughed.
“So, we get ready for a battle,” Lucifer announced as he pulled his phone out. “Gonna call Demon for more men.”
Della stared at him. “Demon?”
Saint nodded at her. “Yeah, that’s his VP.”
“And your name is Lucifer?” She stared at him.
He raised his head and said, “Yes.”
“Of the Hell’s Guardian Warriors?” she asked.
Again, he nodded. “But we’re not all bad.” He motioned to his little brother. “I mean his call name is Saint and his wife’s name is Pink, of all things. So they are angels for sure.”
Saint shook his head and snorted. “As if...”
“I want a name,” Della replied excitedly.
Lucifer stared at her and cocked his head. “We will call you ...Switchblade.” Then he tapped his finger on his cell screen.
Again, the men all laughed.
Smiling, Della looked up at Snake.
He gave her a nod and whispered to her, “You earned Lucifer’s respect. And believe me, that’s a hard thing to do.”
Turbo and Phantom heard him as they both gave her a respectful nod. Then they knelt and grabbed Zapper under each arm.
“Take him to the barn cellar,” Saint instructed.
They dragged him out through the front door.
Bucky came running in from outside and he made a B-line for Della.
Keeling down, she grabbed him and rubbed his ears. “Where were you, Buck?”
The dog dropped something from his mouth onto the floor. It clanked when it hit the wood.
Snake knelt and picked it up. “It’s a cell phone. He raised it and tapped the screen, swiping his finger along. Pausing, he then growled beneath his breath.
“What is it?” Della asked.
He shook his head. “That fucker lied to us.”
“You mean Zapper?” Lucifer asked him.
Snake nodded. “According to these texts...There’s a dozen Red Devils men coming and they will be attacking right after it gets dark.”
Della sighed in disappointment. “I guess I didn’t scare him after all.”
“No, men like him can’t talk unless they lie,” Saint told her. “I think we will need that phone.” He stepped over and took the cell from Snake. “We can tell some lies of our own.” He scrolled along the messages. “I wanna see how well they can play Fuck Around And Find Out.”
Della stared at him then looked up at Snake.
Snake grinned at her.
Just after sunset ...
Three SUVs came up the county road. Once they spotted the lights at the farm, they turned their headlights off. Slowing down, they all parked on the side of the road.
The boss came over the radios each SUV had, “We sneak up and get close to the windows. Then we start shooting at Hell Spawn’s command. Keep your radios with your group.”
They all quietly got out of their vehicles. They moved along in 3 groups of four each. Then they walked silently along the fence up the country road.
The gate stood wide open. The farm tractors were parked by the barn. The whole place looked settled down for the night. Quiet and peaceful. Like many farms were at night. There was no lighting in a few of the smaller cabins in the back area, while the larger house seemed well lit.
The dozen men all crept up to the main house. They peeked in through two of the wide windows and saw silhouettes through the lace curtains. The people there were all sitting at the table having dinner. The Red Devil men could hear voices and laughter coming from the house.
“Perfect.” Jazz snickered and then said into the radio, “Just like Zapper said. They have no idea we were coming.”
His men all smirked in the semi light and raised their guns.
Jazz turned his head and smiled at his 2nd in command. Then he finally gave him the nod.
Jesse otherwise known as Hell Spawn gave him a nod back and spoke into the radio he held, “Okay, on the count of three, crash the windows and start shooting. One—”
“Two—three!” a rushed shout came as metallic clicks sounded from behind all the Red Devil men.
Before the men could make a complete turnaround to face whatever had crept up behind them...guns went off from at least fifteen unknown attackers.
Male screams and shouts split through the fresh evening air as blood splattered everywhere.
After a couple of loud out of control harrowing minutes, the Red Devil men were all on the ground. Weapons dropped from useless grips as many had their kneecaps shot out. Some had bloody hands and arms.
From the darkness, men bolted out from every direction, seizing their weapons.
Floodlights came on as the front of the house was almost as bright as day.
“The fuck?” Jazz yelled as he grabbed his bloody knee with both hands. Tears of pain and misery had tracked down his cheeks.
“No, it’s actually called Fuck Around And Find Out, asshole.” A tall man stepped up, his gun trained on Jazz.
“Jack?” another man called from a couple of feet over as he sat up and held his bloody arm.
Looking from Jazz over to Jesse, Snake said, “Oh, there you are... Mr. Sell Your Own Sister To The Devil.” Snake growled as he stepped closer.
Jesse glared at him. “Fuck you! Like you ever cared about her or me!”
“No, he cared about me.” Della stepped up next to Snake. “He just doesn’t care about Hell Spawn.”
“You fucking bitch!” Jesse exclaimed angrily. “I should have killed you when I had the chance.”
Della stepped closer and pulled her leg back to kick him square in the face.
“Ahhhh!” Jesse shouted as he grabbed his bloody face. “You broke my nose!”
She stepped back and got ready to lunge at him again.
He raised his hands up in defense.
Kicking him a second time, she then jumped away.
They could all hear a bone snap.
Jesse screamed like a girl as she had broken his jaw.
“You are dead, bitch!” Jazz yelled as he bolted up with a knife raised high. He then halted as a shot rang out and a red hole appeared on his forehead. His limp body dropped to the ground.
Della looked up to see Snake lowering his weapon.
Lucifer stepped up and loudly announced to the injured men on the ground, “If you don’t wish to go to hell with your boss, you’d better remain very still while my men ziptie you.”
Sirens blared as several Sheriff SUVs came up the farm road.
Lucifer grinned. “Here comes Uncle Charlie.” He looked over at Demon.
“Here to save the day, of course,” Demon said as he smiled back.
“Damn, I love this game,” Saint quipped as he smiled as well.
Snake grabbed Della up and moved her away. “Come on, Switchblade.” He paused. “Maybe we should get you a new name. Like Kicker?” He laughed. “Let’s go in and help get rid of the cardboard cutouts. Pink will not like all the clutter at her dining table when she gets back from the saferoom.”
