30. Janie

Chapter 30

Janie

I picked up the shorts. The two assholes decided on a different outfit when I was at work. This one included fishnets, shorts, boots, and a tight top. I didn’t recognize them. I turned to Meical and put my hands on my hips. “Did you go shopping?”

He smiled. “Yes. But the undergarments are for my eyes,” he whispered as a shadow tentacle traced up my thigh. Another one slipped under the clothes and glided over the lingerie. I swallowed my desire as his eyes darkened. “Don’t think you can hide that from me.”

“No secrets. No privacy anymore. Where am I meeting him?”

“The coffee shop that Urien took you to. He said it would be best. Cause if it?—”

“The witches. What if you have to move as a shadow? The place you ate that guy may be better.”

Meical turned as the surrounding shadows pulsed. “I shouldn’t have to move in to save you. If you are worried about the witches, Urien can lure him in the alley, and then I can consume him. ”

“It won’t get to that, right? Not like last time?” I whispered. Meical stepped into my space and laid his hand on my hip.

“That will never happen to you ever again. I will devour the world to keep you safe.”

I turned as I grabbed my purse. “You talk about mates, but what about love?”

Medical didn’t answer me and frustration pulsed through me. He said all the right words but . . . maybe I was missing certain words. I needed the chance to fall in love with him myself.

His face turned cloudy as he shifted into his human form and walked out of the door. Following him, I walked to the car. “He won’t notice a man in my front seat?”

“You could say I’m your brother. Or I could fall into the shadows. Anyway, I’m sitting with Urien.”

“I’m not comfortable with you hanging around the witches. I don’t think they would take too kindly to your presence,” I whispered.

Meical paused. His eyes flicked around before melting into the shadows underneath the car and reappeared beside me. He caged me in with his body. “You seem to care a lot for someone who says they don’t trust me.”

“I’m a nice person. Maybe that’s why?”

Meical smirked as he looked up and down my body. He licked his lips as a shadow slid down my side. “You are a nice person. I know that.” More shadows seemed to lick my boots as I stood. “I can confirm that.”

Meical stepped back and melted again. I steeled my jaw as the fire raged inside me. He popped back on the other side of the car. “Let’s see if this guy took your friend.”

I sat in my car and started the car. “Do you think this is the one? ”

“No. I have my theories, and Urien has his own. He’s also been working some other leads from other vampires.”

“How?”

“It’s easy. Or that’s what he says. I didn’t pry.”

“Is it confidential?”

“Just vampire things.”

My brows furrowed. “What?”

“The vampires are in many things. What’s a good way to get fresh blood?”

The sentence hung in the air of what he meant. “That’s gross.”

“It’s life.”

“You say you destroy evil, but not vampires?”

“That is not my domain.”

“But what about that other dude?”

“You were in danger. Well, honestly, that was more of jealousy. That wasn’t a completely honorably kill.”

“So you can’t be a vampire hunter?”

“There are vampires much like Urien that are fine.”

“So he’s good?”

He chuckled. “He’s still a vampire.”

“He seems pretty chill, though.”

“He’s a vampire. Just like I’m a monster, he is a monster. Didn’t he say that to you a few days ago?”

I sighed. “Yeah, I think so.”

I parked the car and tugged the shorts again. “Why are they so short?” I hissed across the car as human Meical stepped out and laughed boisterously.

He licked his lips as shadows raced up the back of my thighs. I tried to step back, but another one wrapped around my torso, sticking me to the car. The tips ghosted the edges of my shorts and my breathing came out in pants. The pull he had over me was undeniable. Another one palmed my ass. More pressed my legs apart and one ran up my thigh. The one sliding against my mound vibrated.

“We’re in public, Meical. Not even the magical district.” Fuck, at this rate, I was going to be horny all the time because of him.

“I know,” he said. “I have eyes everywhere.”

“Can you—” My hips bucked into the car. I panted as my orgasm rose quickly. It wasn’t fair how much my body craved his every touch. He played me like an instrument.

“I wanted them that short. I want to watch your delicious body move in them and hope that you’ll let me pull them down with my teeth. My shadows will explore every crevice of your body, you’ll drip with need for me and finally I’ll be able to plow you with my cock. You enjoyed it that one time?—”

“It was a dream, right?”

“Not every time was a dream.”

I swallowed. “Can you let me go?”

His human eyes flashed back to black. “Say it again. Beg.”

“No.”

“I’m immortal. I can stand here all day.”

“Someone will see.”

“Then you need to beg right now before someone comes by.”

“Please let me go. Please.”

The shadows disappeared and let me go. “Are you ready for your date?”

I grunted. “Maybe I should fuck him.”

A shadow pushed me back into the car. One wrapped around my throat as Meical strolled around the car. He stepped in front of me. Even now, he seemed scary. His black eyes complete black voids. “You are my everything. I will destroy everything to protect you. And I will protect you from yourself. You’re not that type of girl.”

I didn’t answer. The shadows left, and I straightened up. I fixed my clothing and shook my head to get in the right frame of mind. Time for this stupid date. But it was for a good cause. I was going to save my friend.
