Epilogue
Zerachiel
I stand near the counter, placing delicate cupcakes with swirls of violet and cobalt frosting adorned with edible pearls on the table, counting them as I go.
“Witching Hour” is set to begin soon, with Crescent Coven hosting and a local bluegrass band coming in for entertainment.
Kate has been reaching out to the community, creating spaces where the store not only hosts book clubs, but also fundraisers and fun social events.
She also insisted I start selling my culinary creations, after I baked a pie that was too big for just us to finish, and the leftovers sold out in the store within five minutes.
I feel Kate’s hand on the small of my back, trailing down to my tail.
I playfully smack her away. “Not now, my Kate. Last week I ran out of cupcakes and everyone was so disappointed.” I turn to her, lifting her into my arms, nuzzling my face in her neck.
“I promise I will attend to you thoroughly and completely later tonight.”
Her lips jut out in a mock pout. “You promise?”
I lean forward, bringing her lips to mine, suckling gently on her bottom lip while my tail explores the seam of her jeans, making her squirm. “If I do not, you can punish me all you like.”
She hops down to the floor. “Carry on!” Before doubling back. “Hold on, you still look a little too tall, and I see some blue peeking through on your forehead here.” She squints at me. “Or maybe you got frosting on your face, it’s hard to tell!” She says, with a laugh.
“Okay, fix me up then. I do not want to scare the humans.” I stand still while Kate closes her eyes, whispering the veil spell under her breath. After spending some time with the Coven, Kate learned that the town usually veils supernaturals from humans, but the veil has been glitchy lately.
She opens her eyes. “Much better. Just a normal-looking, boring dude.” A mischievous grin spreads across her face. “Only I will know that you’re really a handsome angel with wings and a tail.”
“And Merna.” I point out.
“True. Although I do miss the horns.” Her eyebrows wiggle at me suggestively.
“Well, I am a Watcher angel once more, so no horns for me. Maybe I can get those make-believe ones human children wear for Halloween.” I put my fingers up to my head, mooing like a cow.
Kate throws her head back, laughing, but I feel her passion blaze within her. “I’ll keep that in mind.” She throws her arms around me for another hug. “Will you stay with me, forever?”
She asks me this every day now. And my answer is always the same. “Forever, my Kate.”
