29. Princess Esemeray
PRINCESS ESEMERAY
She didn’t know how long she had been flying for, but she did know one thing—Razareth was a different world under nightfall. The roaring and screeching from various creatures in the dead of the night made her want to crawl under a bed she was sorely lacking.
Despite the horrors, she still couldn’t get Riggs' face out of her mind. Couldn’t unhear the words. “He wishes for you to leave…immediately.” How devastated he had looked, the tremble in his voice as he declared it.
Heart fluttering fast, Esemeray veered, avoiding a swarm of bats.
She nearly plummeted when one slammed into her.
Pay attention. Wings spread out, she regained her balance, flapping in a steady beat.
Maybe those were not bats at all—she had read enough to know bats were prey for owls.
If they were smart, they’d avoid her at all costs.
But she wouldn’t hurt them anyway…
She let out a hoot, and continued her journey to Levaruin.
Chest stinging, she craned her neck, looking toward Aldmoor—toward Riggs, something she had done over a hundred times since she’d left.
Chills enveloped her body. Even though it was nothing but pure darkness, she still looked, knowing he was there, somewhere within the forest.
Now she’d never know what it felt like?—
To kiss a man she cared for.
