Chapter Eight

Elizabeth eased her car down the graded road that led from the gate, past a cluster of buildings and through the trees before several houses appeared.

She wondered, not for the first time, about a bunch of rough and rowdy bikers who would keep houses that, while each was different, looked like they belonged in any neighborhood.

Well, maybe not any. As beautiful as these houses were, they would never fit in next to the monstrosity Mama called home.

Elizabeth had never wanted anything that big.

She was not into entertaining, at least not in her home.

She hated letting people she wasn’t close with into her home, her sanctuary.

That made her shake her head as she pulled her car into the driveway next to the pickup already sitting there.

She wondered for a moment why Kevin had invited her here, to what was obviously his sanctuary.

There was a covered parking area, but she knew that was for Kevin’s Harley.

After killing the engine, she grabbed her handbag, then the bags Kevin had put in the trunk for her and headed inside.

It had been a long day and all she wanted was to curl up, hopefully with Kevin, though she would understand if he put her in a guest room, and get some sleep.

Inside she looked around, it didn’t look like much had changed since the last time she was here.

Not that she’d spent a lot of time inspecting his home then, but it was impossible not to notice some things.

The home was clean, if a little lived in.

It had been messier the last time she’d been here, but he’d been home, watching something sports, if she remembered right, at the time.

She dropped the shopping bags, along with her handbag on the square table in the middle of the room and went to the sofa.

It looked soft and comfortable, and she couldn’t resist the temptation to find out.

Laying down, she grabbed one of the pillows at one end and shoved it under her head. She would just lie here and rest while she waited for Kevin.

Then darkness took her.
