Chapter 30
SOREN
Neven leans against the wall as I shut the door behind me.
The bag of supplies on my shoulder as we finally get to our omega in heat.
We’d promised to give Red some time, Asher obviously breaking the hour we promised him.
But Ash is a different case, being with Red in more than just a packmates kind of way.
The three of them are breathless, naked, and exhausted. Esper can hardly keep her eyes open. Red is leaning against Esper, his eyes closed. Asher is quick to move, not minding his nakedness at all. Neven scoops up Esper, and Asher takes Red.
I move into the nest, trying not to stare as I’ve never been inside a nest before. The room carries a sense of calm, but I’m not so sure it's the room itself and not the scents within it.
It smells of rightness, of my Pack. I pop open the mini fridge and stuff it full of water and fruit, stacking the protein bars and cookies on the table next to it. We should probably replace this with a shelf so we can fit more supplies on it. Like rags and more food.
Grabbing a water, I turn to Esper and Neven. He has her curled up against his side. Brushing her hair with his fingers off her face and she purrs in contentment as she snuggles against him more.
I slide into the spot beside her. Cracking open the water bottle. I’m not one thousand percent sure how heats work, but I have to imagine dehydration is a going concern.
“You taking care of me because I’m an omega, Alpha?” Red complains as Asher holds a water bottle up to his tired form on the other side of Neven. Asher pulls a thin sheet over him and props him up against the headboard. Despite Red’s words, he has a lazy smile on his lips.
“I take care of you because you are a person, Red,” Asher answers in a low voice as he tilts the water up for the omega.
I chuckle lowkey as I do the same for Esper who tries to reject by nodding her head. But one rumble from Neven has her parting her lips. Maybe later he can try that trick again to get her to eat something.
Bringing a sheet from the corner of the bed up, I cover the three of us, willing my hardening dick away as I cuddle Esper from behind. She reaches back and grasps my hand, bringing it up to her chest and resting our interlocked fingers between her breasts.
I rest my head on her shoulder, and her omega purrs with vigor.
My eyes drift closed, not yet tired but knowing I will be. Something in my chest solidifies as I lay next to Esper. The scents from all the members now swirl in the air. Ash’s words ringing in my ear.
I take care of you because you are a person.
I don't know when this happened, why it happened, but around them I notice that I… I don’t feel like a beta.
From the moment we all sat at Coal’s Diner together, I’ve felt like a member of this Pack. Like I belong.
Wow.
If only I could have known a year ago where I’d end up. If only the Soren who’d just lost every member of his family in rapid succession could see what he’d gain in the aftermath.
Something special. Precious. Worth my life to protect.
I hold Esper tighter.
This woman saved my life. My scent match. The person I don’t think I could live without anymore.
I’m sure the other guys feel the same, but I’m realizing there isn’t a thing I wouldn’t do to keep her. Keep her safe.
And that scares me.
But in a good way?
She’s ours, and it’s time everyone knew that.
