Chapter 38

Jay,

I was thinking about our first date together. Do you remember?

You took me to Olive Garden, and we both thought we were so fancy.

I spent way too long curling my hair and wore that pink dress I loved—though looking back, I realize it looked like something my grandma would’ve worn.

You wore a button-up for the first time in your life, and I thought it looked silly on you.

The waitress brought our sodas in wine glasses, which was honestly the sweetest thing. We should’ve given her a bigger tip for that. Instead, we asked for way too many refills on breadsticks, and you thought you were slick when you grabbed an extra mint on the way out.

I never told you this, but you kind of needed it. All those breadsticks gave you garlic breath, but the mint helped our first kiss in that parking lot taste sweeter.

We have a dinner date tonight. I imagine it’ll be like Olive Garden, but the grown-up version. It’s funny…over a decade has passed, but I’m still just as excited to go out with you now as I was then.

I love you,

A
