6. Chapter 6 #2
She’s not marked enough. Her bare throat, slender wrists, and empty fingers are missing any indication that she belongs to someone.
I’ll be fixing that immediately, as she deserves to swim in jewels just as beautiful and stunning as she is.
The thin column of her neck is first. Tonight will be the burn from my stubble, tomorrow a green stoned pendant matching my eyes and nothing else.
Unconsciously, I rake the backs of my fingers across the soft skin of her clavicle, its smoothness contrasts my military-hardened calluses. I can’t help myself; I need to hold her but not in an embrace, no…in my fist that owns.
Capturing her throat, her pulse beats wildly against my touch. It’s time; time I leave something on her skin where she can remember not just my presence, but the fact that she belongs to me.
Maybe I am a creep. Whatever I am, one thing’s for certain—I’m hers, too.
Scraping my stubble from her collar to the sensitive spot under her ear, I smell the body wash lingering on her flesh. The same one she wore after her shower and surrounded her like a fucking cloud—makes me dizzy.
“I warned you, Spawn. Now that you’ve come for me, what should I do with you?”
Pink blisters her skin as she stammers through her words—amateur. I chuckle at her neck and kiss it before I let common sense catch up—remembering she’s Kace’s daughter, she was a job. Was.
Fuck it.
“It’s alright; when I’m done with you, words won’t be necessary.”
Time slows, I swear it does. When our eyes meet, I see a quick glimpse of the girl who looked to me for safety and comfort years ago. Not the one who fights me at every turn. She may push back, which is just fine, but I can see the facts staring me in the damn face.
She’s mine.
Her eyes flick to my mouth, then time speeds back up.
Crashing my mouth to hers, I expect Sadie to go rigid and pull away but she doesn’t.
Her hands dive into my hair, digging into the dark and gray strands, and hold me in place as she pushes away from the wall into me.
When her lush lips part, my tongue sweeps eagerly into her mouth, the lingering hint of my whiskey mixing with the sweet taste of her—a delicate confection my teeth ache for.
My free hand slides up her spine into her hair and fists, refusing her full control. I gingerly squeeze her throat then pull her head back and force our lips apart with a lewd pop.
“Don’t think about it,” I warn.
“A…about what?” Her tongue swipes over her fuller bottom lip, mesmerizing me with her trickery.
“Trying to demand and call the shots. I will put you in your fucking place if you’re not careful.”
Heat bursts across her face and down her neck where my stubble has aggravated her skin. Giving her a once over, I’m at full mast within seconds as her fucking nipples peak through the fine fabric of her dress.
“Mine,” I grunt like a barbarian.
She’s quiet, her chest rises and falls with breaths that seem to quicken the longer I worship the mere sight of her. Sadie gets off on this, being looked at, like she’s got something to barter with, and she couldn’t be more right.
Releasing her throat, my hand slips down to her waist, around, then to her ass as the opposite keeps her blonde locks secure. Skirting my fingers along the bottom curve of her cheek, I grab and yank her forward, aligning her hips with mine.
Her pelvis rubs at my bulge; she’s trembling in my firm grip but I’m nowhere near done. I’ll have her squirming and needy before I send her back to her parents. Where she’ll sit in front of strangers wet and swollen between thighs I can’t wait to part and bury myself between.
“Say it, Spawn.” I bite her bottom lip then rock into her, grinding as if we’re two sticks ready to strike a fire and sink a ship with a rogue inferno.
“S…say what?”
Ohhh, I like how breathy she sounds—incapable of saying every word in full, needing to capture the other syllables for support.
“Who watches over you? Who protects you from the world, who’s ready to fight your demons? Say it, Sunshine. Tell me who.”
Panting, Sadie squirms as heat pools between her legs, searing me through her dress, whimpering when I prevent her from wiggling around.
“Say it.”
Seizing her lips in another kiss, my tongue dips in the second she opens. It’s deeper this time, slow and consuming as we truly taste one another. There’s nothing I wouldn’t give this woman, other than distance because I’ve tried and it feels like I’m being shredded when it happens.
In need of a breath, I break free from her delicious lips to see Sadie’s cheeks flamed, but finally she whispers everything I’ve needed to hear.
“You.”
“Mmmm, that’s right. Me. Not your nightmares, not the things in your head that have you scared and hurting yourself. Me.”
Unable to get enough of her, I go to kiss her again when my phone rings.
Trying to ignore it, I finally release her hair and comb my fingers through the silky strands. Slowly I ease her down my frame where she no longer has to feel the throb of my cock against her.
She’s so damn beautiful.
The phone falls silent when it goes to voicemail, but quickly starts again.
Sadie’s looking up at me, with eyes so blue I feel as if I’m staring into the ocean—where I’ll willfully crash against the shores and drown just to hear her song.
On the third time ringing, I cuss and answer with an aggressive snap.
“Sullivan.”
“About fucking time, Elias. I shouldn’t have to call you three times for you to answer the damn phone.”
Maverick. That only means one thing, I have to leave the damn state. I planned to send Sadie home and forbid her from relieving the ache I’ve caused, then try again tomorrow. But, looks like all good things must come to an end.
Without too much space, I release her ass and keep my arm coiled around her waist, holding her flush to my side as I correct him.
“I’m not always at your beck and call, boy. What’s so important you had to call me back to back?”
“Need you here at oh-six-hundred. GPS’d your phone and see you’re in Philly. It’s a long flight, don’t be late.”
He doesn’t get the courtesy of a goodbye; ironic since I give Sadie grief for the same shit.
Hanging up, I shove the damn phone into my pocket and aim my attention back at the woman who’s ensnared me.
She’s soft and hanging onto me, eyes hooded and a little gone, so this is my chance to plant the idea of ‘us’ into her beautifully cracked mind.
Cradling both sides of her face, I press the softest kiss to her lips then tilt my forehead to hers.
“Gotta work. I’ll be back in a few days to pick you up from your appointment. Do not take public transit or Uber. Understood?
She hums her response and I chuckle at its lazy tone.
This woman has a chokehold on me, only fair I have one on her too.
One kiss to her forehead is the last thing I give before I let her go.
Like the gentleman I am, I ensure Sadie is steady on her feet then lace our fingers together and guide her back to the main entrance.
“Go to your parents. Don’t talk to anyone; I have no desire to bail you out of jail.”
She takes one last look at me before our hands finally disconnect. I can’t help but feel like a part of me has been ripped from the bone when I no longer feel her warmth.
“Sadie, be good.” I call out, trying to get one more glimpse of her.
She doesn’t stop, just lifts her right hand and flips me off. Smiling like the shmuckiest-shmuck that has ever walked the planet, I shake my head and disappear down the stairs before either one of us can look back.
