Zaria

The kiss on my sweet Savior’s face made me happy.

He ended up being in the hospital longer than we anticipated, and that worried me.

I felt like my baby wasn’t getting better.

Maybe Dr. Carter was wrong about her findings, and Savior was sicker than we thought.

The idea of him never coming home made me sick, and June, well, he was losing his mind just as much, if not more.

If it were up to him, he would buy out the entire floor and turn it into our home. Luckily, I was the mediator for it all.

While I waited for Dr. Carter to come into the room with what I hoped would be good news, I checked my phone and saw a text from Yana.

She decided to cancel Love’s party because of everything that was going on with June and Savior being in the hospital.

I sent a quick reply telling her to still have the party.

We needed some form of normalcy, and although it was for my niece, some type of family event was needed to kill the brewing darkness we had been going through.

When I exited the text thread, I realized the last message I sent to Navi had gone unanswered.

After the holidays, I hadn’t heard from or seen my sister.

Even though we weren’t close, it would have been nice to know she was okay.

Instead of sending another text, I called, but it went straight to voicemail.

Refusing to call my mother, I made a mental note to talk to Yana about it.

I knew with everything that happened with Preach and that little shit with Bishop, Navi was hurt.

She probably hated Yana and me for not giving up our relationships to follow her.

The room door opened to Dr. Carter. She came in right on time before my mind took a trip of its own. I stepped over to Savior’s bed.

“Hello, Mrs. Calloway,” she greeted me.

“Hi.”

She looked over Savior’s file, then up at me.

“I see you turned in your husband’s family history.

Thank you for that. I came to deliver good news.

We’re sending Savior home today. I want to do one last blood test on him and go over what you gave me.

If I have any findings, I will definitely be in contact.

He’s a strong little one, fighting off that infection like a true prince. Do you have any questions for me?”

I cleared my throat as I nervously stepped forward. “Based on what you see there and what’s been going on with him, is it possible he may—”

She placed her hand on mine. “I don’t want to give you any false promises. What I will say is keep doing whatever you’re doing. Faith and a strong family are what keep things going. It’s what keeps me sane, at least. It was nice meeting you, Mrs. Calloway.” She smiled.

“You can call me Zaria, and it was a pleasure—”

“Coffee,” she said.

I nodded. When she walked out of the room, I hurried back over to my son. He stared at me, smiling with his big brown eyes. When I saw his dimple form, I thought about June.

“Your brother, sister, and Daddy will be happy to see you,” I told him.

This family feud that June had needed to end. Savior was the Calloway’s warning to get everything in order.
