MR.JEON 💜📖 Part 9 The Space Between Us

A flash of headlights. A sharp brake.

A sleek black car stopped at the mouth of the alley.

The door opened, and the world seemed to hold its breath.

Jungkook stepped out — coat unbuttoned, expression carved from fury.

The men froze.

One took a step back. The weight of his presence — calm, lethal — was enough to send them running.

When they disappeared, only silence remained.

Y/N stood there, hands trembling. Her breath came too fast.

Jungkook's gaze softened just slightly as he stepped closer.

He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. For once, no retort.

She hesitated... then obeyed.

The car smelled faintly like cedar and rain.

He didn't speak as he drove — just the sound of tires cutting through the wet road and his hand tightening around the wheel.

A long silence stretched between them — heavy, uneasy.

The hum of the car filled what neither of them wanted to say.

Her chest tightened. The lie was too clean, too practiced.

She turned her gaze to the window, city lights sliding over her reflection.

Jungkook's grip on the steering wheel tightened once — then loosened.

He didn't look at her again.

The car slowed in front of her building.

The silence stretched, colder now — almost safe.

No reply.

She opened the door and stepped out, the night air brushing against her skin.

She walked to the entrance, pausing once to glance back — his eyes followed her, unreadable through the half-lowered window.

He didn't move. Didn't look away.

Then She disappeared behind the glass doors, her shadow swallowed by the dim lobby lights.

Jungkook stayed there — engine running, eyes fixed on the spot where she'd just been.

For a long moment, he didn't move.

The faint hum of the city pressed against the silence inside the car.

Then, without a word, he shifted the gear and drove off — headlights cutting through the empty street.

From her window above, Y/N caught the faint glow of his taillights fading into the night.

Her hand lingered on the curtain, heart still uneven.

He said nothing.

She said nothing.

But the space between them pulsed — quiet, unfinished, and far too alive.
