Chapter 25
YIRI
I didn’t get to see Cora the next morning. I felt bad about that, but if I faced her too soon after waking with a hard and weeping cock, I might lose all restraint and beg on my knees to mate with her.
I am not a male who begs.
Other males beg me for their lives.
Businesses, families, and governments from here to Cendaqua begged me to trade with them and protect their interests.
Yiri Ahlon did not beg.
But fucking Ibar. I might start if my wife didn’t ask for me soon.
So I left without checking in on her and told Takka to make sure she had whatever she wanted. Safer to send him while I retreated into my work.
Our soldiers had picked up a couple of guys who used to run with Masoh in one of Zacal’s clubs while Cora and I were having dinner the night before.
I spent the morning questioning them, but in the end, we let them go.
There wasn’t anything credible to suspect them of.
No good reason they’d still be loyal to Masoh after what went down.
One of the guys asked if we were looking for new soldiers. Fucking kids.
By the time I finished with them, Zacal had a meeting with Bruukto Shek lined up, and he wanted me and Evik both in on the call. That shit took the rest of the morning and an hour out of my afternoon.
I got a few alerts on my nexus frame throughout the morning when Cora opened certain files on my nexus core.
It seemed my little mate was curious about a few things.
My work contacts, my credit accounts, and my medical files.
What was she doing? Planning to kill me for my money?
If so, she might want to cover her tracks a little better.
I could see everything she poked into. Right now, for example, she was looking through my search history in Earth’s nexus system.
I’d done a few searches on her and her parents, the weird religious sect they were a part of, and the last place Cora worked.
I was glad now that I’d erased all evidence of my searches into her previous lovers.
There wasn’t much more for her to see there.
Except, maybe there was. Another alert came through when a saved search was opened. It was an older one, and maybe it would be fine. She probably wouldn’t mind. She didn’t mind the art on my arm, and this was no different.
I got a message from her a few minutes later.
Cora: I’m going out. Zoddi and Xokat are going with me.
Me: Be good, wife.
Cora: You first, husband.
I chuckled and sent an order to Zoddi to keep me updated on where they went.
At least I didn’t have to feel guilty about her being bored at home.
This was why I’d planned ahead and made sure she had a team ready to take her wherever she wanted to go.
Yeah, I wanted to kill the same soldiers I picked for the job because they were getting to show my mate around my home city without me, but that was the life I led, right?
Sacrifice and violence. It was fine. We had a gala to go to tonight, and if I played my cards right, I could get home early enough to seduce her before we had to get ready to leave again.
