My Alpha Protector
Chapter 1
Unfinished Business
Julia’s POV
The salt-scented breeze whips through the open window of my SUV as I take the winding road down into Seaside Bluff. The streetlights cast a hazy glow over the weathered storefronts, their peeling paint whispering stories of the town’s history.
The distant crash of waves against the cliffs hums beneath the quiet, a steady reminder of the ocean’s pull. Seaside Bluff looks untouched by time, yet beneath its quaint charm, shadows lurk in the corners of my memory.
The town is smaller than I remember, the buildings worn by time and the salty air, but it still carries the same charm.
The same ghosts.
I grip the steering wheel tighter, my knuckles whitening.
I promised myself I’d never come back.
Yet here I am, rolling down Main Street with a heart full of unresolved memories….
As I approached the town's iconic lighthouse, its sturdy structure rising proudly against the azure sky, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Startled, I turned to find Logan, his towering figure casting a shadow over me.
His piercing blue eyes held a mixture of emotions — love, longing, and a hint of something darker, something I couldn't quite decipher. “Julia, I've been looking for you.” I followed him as he led the way along the winding path towards the hidden sea cave.
The sun was beginning to descend, casting an orange hue over the cliffs, and the rhythmic crashing of waves filled the air with a soothing melody. Logan's long strides ate up the distance, his broad shoulders moving with a graceful yet powerful rhythm.
As we reached the cave entrance, the sound of the waves grew louder, echoing off the rocky walls. Logan stopped and turned to face me, his eyes holding a smoldering intensity.
I've been thinking about this moment for a long time. I want to give you something you've always wanted, something I should have given you years ago. My heart raced as I realized what he was offering. Logan knew my deepest desires, my secret fantasies, and he was finally willing to indulge them.
“I want you to dominate me, Logan. I want to surrender to you completely.” His eyes darkened, and a slow smile spread across his face. “As you wish, my love. But first, I want to prepare you, to make sure you're ready for what's to come.”
He took my hand and led me into the cave, the cool air sending goosebumps along my skin. The cave was dimly lit, with the setting sun casting shadows that danced across the walls. Logan stopped in the center, where the sound of the waves was a constant, soothing hum.
“Strip for me, Julia. Show me your beautiful body, every inch of it.” I felt a rush of excitement as I began to undress, my fingers trembling slightly as I unbuttoned my top and let it fall to the ground.
Logan's eyes devoured me, his gaze roaming over my exposed skin, lingering on the curves of my breasts and the dip of my waist. I slipped off my leggings, revealing my lace panties, and stood before him, my body trembling with anticipation.
“You're exquisite. But I want to see all of you.” I slowly slid my panties down my thighs, my heart pounding in my chest. Logan's eyes widened as he took in the sight of my naked body, his gaze fixed on the soft curls between my legs.
“Now, bend over and touch your toes.” I obeyed, my heart racing as I felt his hands on my bare skin. He caressed my back, his touch sending shivers down my spine. I could feel his breath on my neck, hot and ragged, as he leaned close.
“You're so beautiful like this, so vulnerable. I'm going to make you feel things you've never felt before.” His hands moved to my hips, guiding me to stand.
He positioned me with my hands against the cave wall, my body on display for his pleasure. I felt the cool stone against my palms, contrasting with the heat radiating from my skin.
Logan stepped behind me, his muscular frame pressing against my back. I could feel his hardness against my buttocks, a silent promise of what was to come. He reached around, his large hands cupping my breasts, his thumbs teasing my nipples to hardness.
“You like that, don't you? Feeling my touch, knowing I'm in control?” “Yes, Logan. Please, I need you.” He chuckled, a deep, throaty sound that sent a thrill through me. “Not yet, my love. I want to tease you, make you beg for it.”
His hands left my breasts and trailed down my stomach, his fingers dipping into the moist heat between my thighs. I gasped as he slid a finger inside me, his touch eliciting a wave of pleasure. “You're so wet, so ready. But I want you to beg.”
“Please, Logan. I need you inside me. I'm begging you.”
“Not yet. I want to hear you say it again. Please, Logan. Fuck me. I need to feel you.”
His voice was a low growl as he finally thrust into me, filling me with his length. I cried out, my body welcoming the invasion, the sensation of being claimed by him. He pounded into me, his rhythm relentless, each thrust sending shockwaves of pleasure through my core.
“That's it, my love. Take it all. You're mine.” I moaned his name, my body moving in sync with his, our sweat-slicked skin sliding against each other. The sound of our flesh slapping together filled the cave, mingling with our heavy breathing and desperate pleas.
As I felt my climax building, a swirling vortex of pleasure, Logan's hand reached around, his fingers finding my swollen clit. He rubbed it in firm circles, sending me over the edge.
I cried out, my body convulsing around him, my orgasm claiming me with an intensity that left me breathless. Logan continued to thrust, his own release building. He growled my name, his body tensing as he filled me with his essence, marking me as his.
We stood there, entwined, our hearts pounding in unison, our bodies glistening with sweat and desire. As our breathing slowed, Logan pulled out of me, his hands gently caressing my hips. He turned me around, his eyes holding a mixture of satisfaction and tenderness.
He pulled me into an embrace, his strong arms wrapping around me. I rested my head on his broad chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. In that moment, I felt safe, protected, and utterly loved.
I shake my head, clearing my mind from the memory, and pull into a parking space outside The Coastal Arts Center with its neon sign glowing warmly against the dusk.
This is where I’ll be teaching my first dance class in nearly a decade.
The center sits right on the town square, wedged between a bakery and an antique shop-both unchanged.
It’s as if time in Seaside Bluff moves at a different pace.
It’s the kind of picturesque place that should feel welcoming, but my stomach tightens as I climb out of the car.
I glance around the quiet street. The bakery to my left still has its signature cinnamon rolls displayed in the glass case.
The antique shop on the other side has a hand-painted SALE sign propped against the door.
It’s almost like I never left.
But I did.
And if I’m being honest, returning feels a lot like stepping into a battlefield I barely survived the first time.
This place is supposed to be my fresh start—an opportunity to rebuild, to plant roots for Lily and me. Instead, all I feel is the weight of my past pressing down on me.
It’s not just the memories making me uneasy.
A shiver runs down my spine as I glance over my shoulder. The sensation is faint but undeniable —the prickling awareness of being watched.
The logical side of me wants to chalk it up to nerves. After all, I haven’t set foot in this town in years. But the part of me that’s been looking over her shoulder since I left the city isn’t so quick to dismiss it.
I take a deep breath and push forward.
Inside, the studio is bright and airy, sunlight streaming in through the wide front windows. The wood floors are scuffed with years of practice, but the space is warm and familiar.
A few girls are already stretching, their chatter filling the room with the sound of carefree innocence and youthful energy.
“Miss Julia, did you used to live here?” a little girl asks, tilting her head curiously as I set my dance bag down.
“Yes,” I admit with a forced smile, kneeling to adjust her ballet slipper. “A long time ago.”
“Then why’d you leave?”
The innocent question knocks the breath from my lungs.
My smile falters for a fraction of a second, but I recover. “I was chasing a dream.”
The truth lingers beneath my skin like an old scar.
Because I ran. Because I had no choice.
I push those thoughts away as I start class, falling into the familiar rhythm of movement and instruction. For a while, everything feels normal. Easy.
But the feeling of being watched never truly fades.
After class, I linger at the studio, running my hand over the ballet barre as I go through the day's events. My mind keeps circling back to that unsettling sensation of being watched.
As I gather my things, I hear a faint tap-tap-tap against the front window.
I freeze.
The sound is faint, against the glass.
My pulse hammers as I glance toward the front window.
The streetlights outside cast long shadows across the sidewalk, but I see nothing out of the ordinary. Just the bakery owner locking up. A couple walking hand in hand. The quiet hum of a peaceful town winding down for the night.
I shake it off, telling myself I’m being paranoid.
Still, as I turn the deadbolt on the studio door, I swear I hear a soft shuffle of footsteps in the distance.
I whip around.
No one.
Still, unease coils in my stomach.
By the time I lock up the studio and head home, dusk has settled over Seaside Bluff. A muted golden hue casts over the ocean, its waves rolling in steady rhythm against the cliffs.
The street lights flicker to life, their glow stretching shadows across the sidewalks. The town is quiet, too quiet, the stillness wrapping around me like a whisper of something unseen, something waiting.
The roads are quiet, the only sound is the distant crashing of waves against the cliffs.
I take the winding road toward my rental house, but as I reach a turn–
headlights glare in my rearview mirror.
A dark SUV looms too close.
My pulse spikes.
Stay calm, Julia.
The vehicle doesn’t try to pass. It stays right behind me, too close for comfort.
A cold sweat beads at my temple.
Ice curls down my spine as I tighten my grip on the wheel. I take the next turn sharply, hoping to lose them, but the SUV follows.
My stomach twists.
Then, suddenly —
Another pair of headlights appear from the opposite direction. A police cruiser.
The SUV behind me slows abruptly before veering off onto a side street, vanishing into the night.
Relief is short-lived—
Because as I suck in a shaky breath when I turn my attention back to the road—
I almost collide with a truck. It’s the sheriff’s.
Tires screech.
My heart lurches as I slam the brakes, barely avoiding disaster.
For a long moment, everything is still.
Then the driver’s door swings open, and out steps Logan Carter.
Broad. Commanding. A scowl etched into his handsome-as-hell face.
His sharp, green eyes lock onto mine–-
and my stomach drops.
Recognition flickers in his gaze —followed by something darker.
Anger.
Unfinished business.
And just like that, I know.
My breath catches, my body tensing under the weight of his stare. A hollow ache forms in my chest, equal parts regret and something far more dangerous—something I swore I'd buried long ago.
I barely have time to take a steadying breath before he’s moving.
Logan stalks toward my driver’s side door with the kind of controlled aggression that used to make my pulse race in a very different way.
Tonight, though, the storm brewing in his eyes has nothing to do with passion and everything to do with barely contained fury.
I scramble to roll down the window just as he reaches my SUV.
“What the hell, Julia?” His voice is a low growl, barely restrained, full of frustration and something deeper. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
I open my mouth, but words fail me. The weight of his gaze, the intensity of the moment—it’s like I’ve been thrown back seven years, to the last time I stood in front of him and broke his heart.
“I—I didn’t see you,” I finally manage. “Someone was following me.”
His expression shifts immediately, that sharp focus of his narrowing in on my face like a predator sensing weakness. “Who?”
“I don’t know,” I admit, shaking my head. “It was an SUV, dark-colored. They tailed me for at least five minutes before the police cruiser showed up. Then they just — vanished.”
Logan’s jaw tightens and he mutters a curse under his breath and glances toward his parked cruiser. I can practically hear the gears turning in his head, his law enforcement instincts kicking into overdrive.
I see the muscles flex beneath the stubble on his face, a clear sign that he’s barely holding back the urge to storm off and start tracking the vehicle down himself.
“Did you get a plate number?”
I shake my head again. “It was too dark. I could barely see anything.”
Then his gaze swings back to me, raking over my face with an intensity that makes my breath hitch.
“What the hell are you doing back here, Julia?” he asks, his voice quieter now, but no less lethal.
I swallow hard. “I—”
I should lie. I should tell him something vague, something safe. But looking into Logan’s eyes, I know that won’t work.
He can see straight through me. He always could.
“I came back for a fresh start,” I say, and it’s not a lie. Just not the whole truth.
His mouth twists, and something sharp flashes in his eyes. “A fresh start?” He huffs a humorless laugh. “That’s funny, considering the way you left.”
I wince. “Logan—”
“Do you have any idea what it was like?” His voice is low, but the emotion simmering beneath it is palpable. “Waking up one morning and finding out you were just— gone?”
Guilt stabs through me, sharp and unforgiving. “I didn’t have a choice.”
His jaw tightens, and I see the war play out in his expression—anger, pain, and something deeper.
Something dangerously close to the emotions I swore to leave buried.
“Yeah,” he finally mutters. “That’s what they all say.”
Before I can respond, he takes a step back and exhales sharply. “I’m taking you home.”
I blink. “What?”
“You said someone was following you. That means you don’t drive yourself anywhere alone, not until I find out who the hell it was.”
The command in his tone makes my hackles rise, but before I can protest, Logan levels me with a glare so sharp I can almost feel it.
“Like it or not, you’re back in my town. That means you’re my responsibility now.”
A shiver runs down my spine.
Because for all the anger simmering in his gaze, there’s something else there, too.
Something just as dangerous.
Possession.
And if I’m not careful…
I might just let myself fall all over again.
Coming back to Seaside Bluff was a mistake.
