Chapter 6

The Two of Swords indicates you are at a stalemate and facing difficult decisions.

DANNY

As much as I wanted to put Ivan Danovich behind bars, I had to admit Caroline Cassidy was just as likely to be the murderer. She was nervous during the interview and exhibited extreme anxiety about the missing cup. She had no alibi for the time of the murder, and she certainly had motive. She admitted to bouts of mental instability and issues with anger during her lecture. The more this woman talked, the more guilty she sounded.

Except, I was not getting the guilty vibe. Odd. Everything about this woman was a contradiction. A very interesting and attractive contradiction.

I turned the air conditioning on full blast in the car and mopped my forehead with a takeout napkin. Just thinking about this woman made me sweat.

Maybe it’s something I ate. Food poisoning. Because I sure as hell am not attracted to a suspect.

I checked in with my informant in Danovich’s organization. He has heard nothing about any deals gone sideways involving Danovich and Davis. I ask if there was any chatter about Paul Davis cheating on Danovich’s daughter, Irina. Again, nada.

Biz and I both came up empty handed with any shady real estate dealings involving Davis and Danovich. She waived an article from the Atlanta Journal Constitution in my face. The headline read: “Local Real Estate Developer Sells East Atlanta Property For $16 million.”

“Looks like that Cassidy woman had sixteen million reasons to kill Paul Davis.”

“Yes, it does. Let’s get this wrapped up.”
