DANNY
It’s getting late but I don’t want to leave. “I’m getting hungry. Would you like to get some dinner?”
Cal yawned. I took the chance to spoof her. “Am I really that boring?”
She laughed. She does not have a girly laugh. She brays like a donkey. For some reason, I like that.
And then she turned serious. Crap.
“Danny, this has been a lovely afternoon,” she began.
I held up my hand to stop her. I didn’t want to hear the rest. “I understand. You’re right. We’d have to sneak around and not let anyone know we were seeing each other.”
I headed down the steps to my car.
She didn’t stop me. Dammit, she didn’t stop me.
