Chapter 3 Our Christmas Night
To spend Christmas with Pei Yuchuan, I dressed up carefully.
But right before the date, a senior from China came to Sydney and wanted to see me.
His schedule was tight and he was leaving the next day.
I had to postpone the date and simply treated him to a meal.
Yet Pei Yuchuan, who should have been waiting at the apartment, showed up at the restaurant.
He leaned against the door with arms crossed, looked down at us, and pressed his thin lips tight.
After I sent the senior off, he silently took my hand and walked back to the apartment.
Along the way I tried to talk to him several times, but he did not respond.
I thought he had forgotten to wear his cochlear implant that day.
When the apartment door opened, a huge Christmas tree greeted us.
Neon lights flashed on the tree, and peace apples and gift boxes sat on the carpet underneath.
Before I could look closely, he pinned me against the wall.
Pei Yuchuan held my waist with one hand and pinched the strap on my shoulder with the other.
He looked down at me.
"You dressed up so nicely today. Was it for the senior?"
"During dinner, I saw you two laughing and talking. Are you close?"
Only then did I realize he was not without the implant.
He was jealous.
I wanted to explain, but before I could speak, his kiss came down.
It was so fierce that breathing became difficult.
We rolled onto the sofa under the Christmas tree.
The room was too warm and intimate.
I thought Pei Yuchuan would stop at the critical step like every time before and go take a cold shower in the bathroom.
But this time he held me in his arms, took out a gift box he had prepared earlier.
The box was small. Inside lay a ring.
He slipped it onto my finger almost reverently, pressed his forehead to mine, and placed his hand on the zipper of my skirt.
"Wen You, I will take responsibility for you and marry you."
"So, can we?"
His eyes reddened at the corners.
I could not refuse.
So I leaned in and kissed the corner of his lips.
"Okay."
I remembered that night lasted until dawn without stopping.
Later I cried and called his name begging for mercy.
He deliberately removed the cochlear implant and looked at me innocently.
"Wen You, I cannot hear."
The ring on my ring finger collided with his spine.
At the time I thought it was just an ordinary ring.
I did not know how much determination he had when he said marriage.
Until I posted a photo of us holding hands on my social circle.
A sudden comment caught my eye.
"That is a Harry Winston big diamond ring! Girl, did you land a rich second-generation guy?"
