Chapter 5 The Blind Date Interruption
Gu Yan's mansion was in Shanghai.
At first, when I heard we were going to Shanghai, I felt some resistance.
Because Pei Yuchuan's home was also there.
But on second thought, Shanghai was so big. We did not have any deep ties. How could we possibly run into each other?
Gu Yan's biological parents were indeed rich. There was a large garden outside the villa.
Along the way, Gu Yan kept chattering nonstop about her younger brother.
I listened half-heartedly. Then my steps halted. I looked toward the man sitting on the distant veranda.
The man had his back to me. He only showed a faint side profile. I could not see his face clearly, but it somehow felt familiar.
Gu Yan followed my gaze and introduced, "Oh, that's My Brother."
"Speaking of which, My Brother is also very handsome. But his romantic history is too complicated. He is not suitable as a partner."
I was quite the gossipy type, so I could not help asking, "What history?"
"I heard he dated a scumbag woman before. They even had a child. But after the child was born, that woman abandoned them and ran off."
"My Brother was deeply hurt by love. Since then, he threw himself into his career and sealed his heart to focus on raising the child."
This story sounded quite familiar. If Gu Yan were not surnamed Gu, I would have suspected her brother was Pei Yuchuan.
After passing the veranda, the man's figure disappeared from my view.
I turned back for another quiet glance. I could not help thinking that Pei Yuchuan's career must have improved by now.
The villa's back garden had been set up in advance with square tables and snacks. Gu Yan's younger brother, Gu Xu, was already waiting for me.
"I told you, although My Younger Brother is not as handsome as My Brother, you will definitely like him."
Before sitting down, Gu Yan whispered confidently in my ear. I was still dismissive.
But after seeing the man's appearance clearly, I froze in place.
He was indeed very handsome.
With refined features, a high nose, and thin lips. His looks hit my aesthetic perfectly.
But he resembled Pei Yuchuan by about thirty percent, especially those affectionate peach blossom eyes.
Today was really strange. Was it because I missed Pei Yuchuan too much that everyone I saw resembled him somewhat?
I tried hard to suppress this absurd thought. Just as I was about to greet Gu Xu, he widened his eyes and spoke first.
"You're... Wen You?"
I nodded. I figured Gu Yan must have told him my name in advance.
But after getting my affirmative reply, he remained stunned in place for a long time without speaking.
Gu Yan slapped the table. She looked at him with disappointment. "What are you staring for? Guys need to be proactive!"
"Look, is Wen You pretty?"
Gu Xu pursed his lips and nodded lightly.
Gu Yan continued asking him, "So, does her appearance match your ideal type?"
Gu Xu did not want to answer at first. But under Gu Yan's sibling pressure, he hesitated and hummed, "Mm."
"Then why are you not introducing yourself and having a proper blind date with Wen You!" Gu Yan urged him discontentedly.
After a moment of silence, Gu Xu forced a smile that looked worse than crying.
"Sister, this one cannot have a blind date with me. It is not right, really not right."
"What is not right about it? She is just three years older than you and had a child before? I already told you everything, and you said you did not mind."
Gu Yan got a bit annoyed. "Do not go back on your word in front of my best friend."
"I do not mind." Gu Xu looked at me. His face flushed red. He stuttered, "But... but My Brother would mind."
I just felt a bit baffled.
Just as I was about to ask, a little child came running over.
She had little pigtails and wore a floral dress. She looked about three years old and was chubby and adorable.
I did not really like children. But she was so cute that I felt an odd sense of closeness.
I figured that the child I had with Pei Yuchuan should be about this age now too.
"This is My Brother's daughter, Pei Xi." Gu Yan introduced her to me while trying to hug Pei Xi.
Unexpectedly, Pei Xi ignored her and ran straight into my arms. She spread her arms toward me and called out in a childish voice, "Mom."
I froze in place in an instant.
Gu Yan quickly tapped her head. "You cannot call her Mom randomly. This is your aunt's friend. You should call her Auntie."
Pei Xi lifted her little face. She tugged at my clothes and excitedly retorted, "It is Mom. This is my Mom!"
"I have seen Mom's photos. I will not mistake her!"
At that moment, as she looked up, I finally noticed she resembled me a bit when I was young.
I felt as if all the blood in my body had frozen instantly. I turned to look at Gu Yan. "What is your brother's... name?"
Before she could answer, a low male voice came from behind.
"Pei Xi, come to Dad."
The voice was very familiar. Yet it had been three years since I had last heard it.
I turned around in a daze. Under the autumn sun's warm light, a man in a white shirt was walking toward us step by step.
After several years apart, he had become much thinner and gained a bit more maturity.
It was Pei Yuchuan.
Sensing my gaze, he turned his head toward me. His eyes met mine exactly.
